A lightweight composite pane is provided that includes a mineral glass or glass-ceramic pane and an organic layer. The weight per unit area of the lightweight composite pane is in the range from 0.5 kg/mto 5.5 kg/m, the ratio of the thickness of the mineral glass pane to the thickness of the organic layer is 1:0.01 to 1:1, and the thickness of the organic layer is less than or equal to 500 &#x3bc;m. The lightweight composite pane meets the thermal safety requirements of aerospace authorities and has a 'Total Heat Release,' measured in compliance with JAR/FAR/CS 25, App. F, Part IV & AITM 2.0006, of less than 65 kW&#xd7;min/mand a flame time, after removal of the flame in the 'Vertical Bunsen Burner Test', measured in compliance with FAR/JAR/CS 25, App. F, Part 1 & AITM 2.0002A, is less than 15 seconds.

Composite element and use thereof

Thin glasses having high refractive index (n), a layer composite assembly made from these thin glasses, a method for the production of the thin glasses, and the uses of the thin glasses are provided. The thin glasses are processed in an in line manufacturing process and have the optical properties of a classical optical glass. The thin glasses are highly transparent, crystallization-resistant, chemically resistant and highly refractive. The viscosity/temperature behavior of the thin glasses is adjusted to the manufacturing process via in line flat glass methods.

Highly refractive thin glasses

Described are the use of glass compositions, for example, in the form of glass powders, glass ceramics, fibers, granules, and spheres for achieving an antioxidative effect. The glass compositions may be used in a versatile manner, such as in cosmetic products, medical products, edibles, paints and lacquers, plasters, cements and concrete, in antifouling products and in polymers. Because of the high photo and temperature stability, the glass antioxidants of the present invention are superior to the organic substances known so far. In addition the glass compositions in contact with human being are non-irritant to skin and even edible. Furthermore, they are toxicologically harmless and environmentally compatible.

Use of glass compositions for achieving an antioxidative effect

A glass composition and its use for producing glass tubes is provided. The glass tubes having the provided composition are particularly suitable for the outer tubes of fluorescent lamps in the case of which a phosphor layer is baked at temperatures of up to 700&#xb0; C. The tubes composed of the glass of the provided composition have a lower tendency to deform or stick together when processed at high temperatures. To obtain the observed effects, the molar ratio of NaO/(NaO+KO), inter alia, is greater than 0.4 and not more than 0.72.

Borosilicate glass composition for producing glass tubes and its use for producing glass tubes and as outer tube for lamps

The glass of the glass-metal bond contains the following ingredients in the following amounts: SiO, 72-80 wt %; BO, 4-&#x3c;6 wt %; AlO, 2-5 wt %; NaO, 4-7 wt %; KO, 0-3 wt %; CaO, 2.5-8 wt %; MgO, 0-2 wt %; BaO, 0-4 wt %; TiO, 0-5 wt %; CeO, 0-2 wt %; FeO, 0-0.1 wt %; F, 0-2 wt %; and the ratio of the sum total amount of AlOand BO(in mol %) to the sum total amount of MgO, CaO and BaO (in mol %) in the glass is less than 5. The glass-metal bond advantageously includes a KOVAR&#xae; alloy and the glass of the aforesaid composition and connects the glass envelope tube with an inner metal absorber tube in a tube collector.

Glass and use of a glass for glass-metal bonds

The neutral glass according to the present invention is characterized by excellent hydrolytic stability, a relatively low processing temperature and low content of boron oxide. Here, the neutral glass has the following composition, in percent by weight based on oxide content: SiO, 70-79; BO, 0-&#x3c;5; AlO, &#x3c;5; ZrO, 0.5-&#x3c;5; TiO, 0.5-6; NaO, 1-6; KO, 3 to 8; and LiO, 0-0.5, wherein a total amount of SiOand BOis less than 83 percent by weight.

Boron-poor neutral glass with titanium and zirconium oxides

The borosilicate glass with improved solarization-resistance has a transmittance curve within an area bounded by respective curves defined by the corresponding equations &#x3c4;=1.7&#xb7;(&#x3bb;&#x2212;277) and &#x3c4;=1.6&#xb7;(&#x3bb;&#x2212;284) in a wavelength range of 283 nm to 325 nm. This glass has a composition, in wt. % based on oxide content, of: 55-82, SiO; 10-20, BO; 1-10, AlO; 0-5, LiO; 0-10, NaO; 0-10, KO; 0-10, &#x3a3;MO; 0-5, MgO; 0-10, CaO; 0-5, SrO; 0-15, BaO; 0-15, &#x3a3;MO; 0-3, ZrO; 0-5, ZnO; 0-2, CeO; 0-3, WO; 0-2, SnO: 0-0.1, FeO; 0.05-2, MoO; 0-5, BiO; 0-1, TiOand 0-5, oxides of selected rare earth and Group IVB to VIIIB elements. The transmittance is adjusted by varying the MoOcontent and if necessary the TiOand BiOcontent. The glass is especially suitable for use in a weathering apparatus.

Solarization-resistant glass composition having a UV-cutoff with a definite  transmittance gradient and radiating device for a weathering apparatus containing a glass of said composition

The borosilicate glass for pharmaceutical packaging has a transmission &#x3c4; in the visible range of more than 80% at a wavelength of 400 nm, a transmission &#x3c4; in the UV range of at most 0.1% at wavelengths under 260 nm (each at a sample thickness of 1 mm), a transformation temperature Tg of 550&#xb0; C. to 590&#xb0; C. and a processing temperature Vof 1100&#xb0; C. to 1200&#xb0; C. The glass has a composition, in wt. % on an oxide basis, of SiO, 60-80; BO, 5-15; AlO, 2-10; TiO, 0.5-7; &#x3a3; LiO+KO+NaO, 3-10; &#x3a3; alkaline earth oxides, 0.5-10; ZrO, 0-3; and FeO, 0-0.2. The glass is suitable for packaging UV-sensitive substances but nevertheless permits optical quality control.

Borosilicate glass with UV-blocking properties for pharmaceutical packaging

The PbO-free UV-absorbing glass is made under oxidative conditions and has a composition, in % by weight, of: SiO, 55-79; BO, 3-25; AlO, 0-10; LiO, 0-10; NaO, 0-10; KO, 0-10; MgO, 0-2; CaO, 0-3; SrO, 0-3; BaO, 0-3; ZnO, 0-3; ZrO, 0-3; CeO, 0-1; FeO, 0-1; WO, 0-3; BiO, 0-3; MoO, 0-3; &#x3a3;LiO+NaO+KO=0.5 to 16 and &#x3a3;MgO+CaO+SrO+BaO+ZnO=0-10. It also contains from 0.1 to 10% TiOwith at least 95% of the titanium as Tiso that it has a high visible transmission, reduced color centers, and a sharp UV absorption edge. It is especially useful in lamps, display devices and glass-to-metal seals

UV-radiation absorbing glass with reduced absorption of visible light and method of making and using same

The glass for a fluorescent light with a high hydrolytic resistance, which has composition, in % by weight based on oxide content of: SiO, 63-75; BO, 15-18; AlO, 3.2-4.5; NaO, 1-2; KO, 2-6; &#x3a3;NaO+KO, 3-8; MgO, 0-8; CaO, 0-10; SrO, 0-10; BaO, 0-10; ZnO, 0-5; &#x3a3;MgO+CaO+SrO+BaO+ZnO, 0-10; ZrO, 0-3; CeO, 0-10; FeO, 0-1; WO, 0-3; BiO, 0-5; MoO, 0-3; TiO, 0-10; &#x3a3;Hf+Ta+W+Re+Os+Ir+Pt+La+Pr+Nd+Sm+Eu+Gd+Tb+Dy+Ho+Er+Tm+Yb+Lu in oxidic form, 0 to 5% by weight, as well as one or more conventional refining agents. The glass is characterized in that it contains no lithium and has a weight ratio of NaO to KO of less than one.

Hydrolysis-resistant glass, a method of making said glass and uses of same

Glass for gas discharge tubes, which are used in fluorescent lamps, EEFL lamps, LCD displays, computer monitors, telephone displays and TFT displays, and a process for making it are described. The glass contains, in % by weight based on oxide content: SiO, 60-75; BO, &#x3e;25-35; AlO, 0-10; LiO, 0-10; NaO, 0-20; KO, 0-20; MgO, 0-8; CaO, 0-20; SrO, 0-5; BaO, 0-5; ZnO, 0-3; ZrO, 0-5; TiO, 0-10; FeO, 0-0.5; CeO0-0.5; MnO, 0-1.0; NdO, 0-1.0; WO, 0-2; BiO, 0-5; MoO, 0-5; AsO, 0-1; SbO, 0-1; SO, 0-2; Cl, 0-2 and F, 0-2, wherein &#x3a3;LiO+NaO+KO=0-25% by weight; &#x3a3;MgO+CaO+SrO+BaO=0-20; &#x3a3;FeO+CeO+TiO+PbO+AsO+SbOis at least 0-10; and &#x3a3;PdO+PtO+PtO+PtO+RhO+RhO+IrO+IrOis from 0.00001-0.1.

UV-absorbing borosilicate glass for a gas discharge lamp and process for manufacturing same

The crystallization-stable alumino-silicate glass is free of BOand contains 50 to 60% by weight, SiO; 14 to 25% by weight, AlO; 0 to 2% by weight, PO; 0 to 7, % by weight, MgO; 5 to 14% by weight, CaO; 0.1-2.0% by weight, SrO; 12.0 to 18% by weight BaO and at least 0.01% by weight MoO. The glass preferably contains &#x3c;0.01 wt. % of water. The glass has high transmission in the visible and IR region of the spectrum, which makes it especially suitable for lamps, bulbs for halogen lamps; and also for solar collectors, for flat display screens and for pharmaceutical packages n which the glass functions as a UV-protective glass.

Crystallization-stable alumino-silicate glass, its manufacture and its uses

The alumino-silicate glass for lamp bulbs with molybdenum components contains alkaline earth metals and has the following composition (in % by weight based on oxide): SiO&#x3e;58 to 62, AlO15 to 17.5, MgO 0.1 to &#x3c;1, CaO 5.5 to 14, SrO 0 to 8, BaO 6 to 17, ZrO0 to 1, CeO0 to 0.3, TiO0 to 5, MoO0 to 2, BiO0 to 4, with a sum total amount of alkaline earth oxides from 11.6 to 29. In addition, the alumino-silicate glass is free of BOso that it has a high thermal stability. Lamp bulbs made with this glass can withstand a bulb temperature of greater than 650&#xb0; C.

Glass that withstands high-temperatures for lamp bulbs, and its use

The lamp bulb for discharge lamps is made from an aluminosilicate glass with a transformation temperature Tg&#x3e;600&#xb0; C. The aluminosilicate glass has a composition (in % by weight, based on oxide content) of SiO&#x3e;55-64; AlO, 13-18; BO, 0-5.5; MgO, 0-7; CaO, 5-14; SrO, 0-8; BaO, 6-17; ZrO, 0-2; TiO, 0-5, but may contain small amounts of CeOand/or FeO, for anti-solarization and fining agents, such as SnO, SbOand/or AsO. The lamp bulbs for the discharge lamps of the invention may include a melted-in molybdenum electrode and/or an electrode feed or they may be free of any internal electrodes. A method for making the lamp bulbs is also described.

The invention relates to a borosilicate glass having the following composition (in wt. % based on oxide content): between 55 and 80 of SiO; between 8 and 25 of BO; between 0.5 and 10 of AlO; between 1 and 16 of LiO+NaO+KO; between 0 and 6 of MgO+CaO+SrO+BaO; between 0 and 3 of ZnO; between 0 and 5 of ZrO; between 0 and 5 of BiO; and between 0 and 3 of MoO; the sum of the BiOand MoOamounting to between 0.01 and 5. The invention also relates to a fluorescent lamp, especially a miniature fluorescent lamp.
