A method operates a power converter that contains power converter arms. Each of the power converter arms has switching modules and each of the switching modules has a plurality of semiconductor switches and an energy store. A temperature value for the power converter is ascertained on the basis of a state model of the power converter, wherein the ascertainment is repeated so as to obtain time-related temperature values. A number and a magnitude of temperature swings that have occurred are ascertained from the temperature values, and a remaining service life for the power converter is estimated based on the ascertained number and magnitude. A power converter is configured to carry out the above-described method.

Power converter and method for operating the power converter

A method operates a power converter having power converter arms, which are switchable between in each case an AC voltage side and a DC voltage side or connectable to phase lines of an AC voltage power supply system. Each power converter arm has a series circuit of switching modules each having a plurality of semiconductor switches and an energy store, in which at least one temperature value for the power converter is determined. A setpoint current limitation value is determined taking into consideration the temperature value, and a setpoint current value is determined taking into consideration the setpoint current limitation value. The temperature value, the arm setpoint current value, the arm actual current value and/or the arm setpoint current limitation value is time-integrated to form an arm integral value. When the arm integral value reaches or exceeds a predetermined arm integral threshold value, a protective measure is performed.

The subject of the present invention is an arrangement for switching on a two-way switch of a converter module. A power generation device for providing electric power for switching on the two-way switch is provided that is suitable for converting electromagnetic radiation into electrical power. There is also described a converter module for a modular multi-level converter having the arrangement and a method for producing operational standby for a converter module having a two-way switch.

A modular multilevel converter has a plurality of sub-modules, each of which includes at least two electronic switching elements and an electrical energy storage device. The sub-modules are controlled by a control device. An optical output of the control device of the converter is connected to an input of an optical distributor by way of a first optical waveguide. A plurality of outputs of the optical distributor are individually connected to an optical input of one of the sub-modules, respectively, by way of a second optical waveguide.

Multilevel converter

An electrical configuration contains at least one submodule which has a first and a second outer electrical terminal. The configuration further has a bypass switching device, which is electrically connected between the first and second terminals and in the on-state causes an electrical short-circuit in at least one current flow direction between the two outer terminals. The bypass switching device has a thyristor with an anode terminal, a cathode terminal and a trigger terminal and is connected by its anode terminal to one of the two outer terminals and by its cathode terminal to the other of the two outer terminals. A triggering device is connected to the trigger terminal of the thyristor for triggering the thyristor, and a switch is provided which in the on-state connects the anode terminal of the thyristor to the trigger terminal of the thyristor.

A converter station for the transmission of electrical power has a diode rectifier with a DC terminal and an AC terminal. At least one transformer is connected to the AC terminal. In order to render the converter station as compact as possible, the diode rectifier is arranged in an insulating material.

An electric energy storage device which is connected to an electronic circuit is discharged by way of a first and a second electric conductor. A thyristor is provided for discharging the energy storage device. As a result of a fault occurring in the electronic circuit, a discharge current of the energy storage device begins to flow from the energy storage device to the electronic circuit via the first electric conductor and back to the energy storage device via the second electric conductor. The discharge current causes a magnetic field which changes over time to be generated about the first electric conductor and the second electric conductor. The magnetic field penetrates the semiconductor material of the thyristor. By virtue of the temporally varying magnetic field, a current is induced in the semiconductor material of the thyristor, and the thyristor is activated by the induced current.

A modular multilevel converter includes a plurality of sub-modules. Each of the sub modules has at least two electronic switching elements, an electrical energy storage device, two galvanic power terminals, an optical communication input () and an optical communication output. A plurality of the sub-modules is connected to a series circuit by way of their communication input and communication output.

A device for switching a direct current includes an operating current path which has a mechanical switch, a switch-off current path which is connected in parallel to the operating current path and has a power-electronic switch, and a commutation device which allows commutation of the direct current from the operating current path into the switch-off current path. The commutation device includes a transformer.

A commutating circuit for an electronic power converter has a first switching device, by which the electronic power converter can be electrically bridged, and a circuit part for limiting the size of the time-related voltage change of a voltage present on the first switching device. The circuit part limits the time-related voltage variation.

A disk cell for pressure contacting a plurality of semiconductor components via a clamping device to generate a clamping force. The disk cell includes a housing comprising at least one metallic pressure plate, a first semiconductor component arranged in the housing, and a second semiconductor component arranged in the housing. The first and second semiconductor components are different. The at least one metallic pressure plate reaches across and clamps the first and second semiconductor components, is substantially perpendicular to the clamping force, and is arranged so that the clamping force acts on the at least one metallic pressure plate to provide a local region of influence to clamp the first and second semiconductor components. The first semiconductor component is arranged below the local region of influence of the clamping force. The second semiconductor component is at least partially arranged outside the local region of influence of the clamping force.

Disc-shaped thyristor for a plurality of plated-through semiconductor components

An installation for transmitting electrical power between a first and a second alternating voltage network. A self-commutated converter can be connected to the second alternating voltage network, and is connected to a unidirectional rectifier by way of a direct voltage connection. The unidirectional rectifier can be connected to the first alternating voltage network on the alternating voltage side, and to a wind farm via said first alternating voltage network. The farm has at least one wind turbine feeding electrical power into the first alternating voltage network when wind speeds are greater than a switch-on wind speed. An energy-generating device can be connected to the first alternating voltage network and/or to the at least one wind turbine for providing electrical energy. The energy-generating device converts a renewable primary energy from its surroundings when wind speeds are lower than the switch-on wind speed for the wind turbine.

Installation for transmitting electrical power

A power semiconductor module includes at least two power semiconductor units that are interconnected and that have controllable semiconductors. Each semiconductor unit is associated with a cooling plate to which the semiconductors are connected in a heat-conducting manner. The object is to provide a semiconductor module that is compact and cost-effective and at the same time explosion-proof. The power semiconductor module of the invention has a module housing which houses the power semiconductor units. The cooling plates form at least part of the module housing.

The vacuum switch is compact, requires little effort, and provides a reliable current path having a high current-carrying capacity between the terminals of the vacuum switch, particularly at high switch-on speeds. The vacuum switch has a vacuum chamber, in which a vacuum is present and in which a switching contact is arranged. The switching contact includes a fixed contact piece firmly connected to the vacuum chamber and in electrical contact with a fixed contact terminal, and a moving contact piece movably guided relative to the fixed contact piece. The moving contact piece is at a distance to the fixed contact piece in a disconnect position and contacts the latter in a contact position. A drive unit produces a drive movement. A switching mechanism is connected to the drive unit and the moving contact piece and includes a conductor section that is electrically conducting up to the moving contact piece. A connector connects a moving contact terminal electrically to the moving contact piece in the contact position. The connector has a clamping contact, which has an insertion clamping contact piece connected to the conductor section of the switching mechanism and a mating clamping contact piece firmly connected to the vacuum chamber and electrically connected to the moving contact terminal. The insertion clamping contact piece and the mating clamping contact piece are arranged relative to each other such that the insertion clamping contact piece is clamped with the mating clamping contact piece in an electrically conducting manner as a result of the drive movement.
