An infusion pump device and method for filling a fluidic system of the infusion pump with liquid medicament prior to infusion operation is presented. A control unit causes the infusion pump to: (a) bring a pump to an initial state; (b) switch a valve to a first state connecting a secondary reservoir to a first conduit and a primary reservoir; (c) retrieve medicament from the primary reservoir; (d) switch the valve to a second state connecting the secondary reservoir to a second downstream conduit; (e) expel the secondary reservoir contents into the second downstream conduit; (f) switch the valve to the first state; (g) retrieve the primary reservoir medicament; (h) switch the valve to the second state; and (i) expel the secondary reservoir contents into the second downstream conduit by shifting a piston to the initial position.

Infusion pump and method for improved filling of a fluidic system

A dosing unit for an ambulatory infusion pump device is presented. The dosing unit comprises a cylinder pump with a cylinder and a piston arranged in the cylinder. The piston has a shaft with a first threaded segment interacting with a threaded portion of the cylinder and can be displaced along a longitudinal axis of the cylinder by rotating the piston in regard to the cylinder around the axis. Furthermore, the piston allows for the relative or absolute determination of the longitudinal and/or rotational displacement of the piston in regard to the cylinder. In one embodiment, the piston shaft comprises a second segment provided with optically detectable markings that allow the monitoring of the longitudinal and/or rotational displacement of the piston in regard to the cylinder.

Dosing unit for an infusion pump device

An infusion pump device comprising a primary liquid medicament reservoir, a pump with a secondary reservoir to retrieve medicament from the primary reservoir and to subsequently dose the medicament from the secondary reservoir in adjustable volumes (V) to a downstream conduit and a control unit to control the operation of the infusion pump device is presented. For metering the volumes (V), the control unit causes the infusion pump device to: (a) determine a maximum refill level (V) for the secondary reservoir, based on external parameters, wherein the maximum refill level does not exceed the maximum capacity of the secondary reservoir; (b) fill the secondary reservoir with medicament from the primary reservoir to the maximum refill level (V); (c) meter and convey the medicament volumes to the downstream conduit; (d) if the secondary reservoir becomes empty, refill the secondary reservoir as in step (b) and continue with step (c).

Infusion pump device and method for improved dosing

Embodiments directed to a degassing device for removing gas bubbles from a liquid drug stream and an ambulatory infusion system are disclosed. The degassing device may comprise an inlet chamber with an inlet opening, an outlet chamber with an outlet opening, and a degassing opening. A hydrophilic membrane and a hydrophobic membrane, wherein the hydrophilic membrane fluidically couples the inlet chamber with the outlet chamber, enabling a transfer of liquid from the inlet chamber to the outlet chamber. The hydrophobic membrane fluidically couples the inlet chamber with the degassing opening, enabling a transfer of gas from the inlet chamber to the degassing opening. The hydrophilic and hydrophobic membranes being joined along a joint to establish a joined membrane, such that a contact line of a liquid-gas phase separation on the joined membrane does not coincide with the joint independent of an orientation of the degassing device with respect to gravity.

Liquid drug degassing device and ambulatory infusion system including a degassing device

An ambulatory medical device is disclosed. The device comprises a device controller, an alert controller, and an indicator. The device controller may be configured to control the operation of the ambulatory medical device. The alert controller may be configured to: determine a first alerting interval, the first alerting interval defining an earliest point in time and a latest point in time for an alert generation due to a first alerting cause; determine in the first alerting interval an alerting point in time based on an alerting criterion; and generate an alert trigger at the alerting point in time. The indicator may be configured to generate an alert upon generation of the alert trigger. The alerting criterion may be used to generate an alert within the alerting interval at a time especially suited and/or convenient for the device user.

Ambulatory medical device with alert controller

According to one embodiment, a medical device may include an energy supply. The energy supply may include a lithium-ion polymer battery including at least two battery stacks and a control unit. One of the at least two battery stacks may be a backup energy source. The control unit may monitor and control the energy supply such that when the control unit detects a fault in the at least two battery stacks, the control unit disconnects a faulty battery stack. The energy supply may be rechargeable. Each of the at least two battery stacks may include a positive potential terminal, a negative potential terminal and one or more battery cell.

Medical device with an energy supply having at least two energy sources

According to one embodiment, a medical device may include an energy supply. The energy supply includes at least two battery stacks, a control unit and a reservoir. The at least two battery stacks include a backup energy source. The control unit may monitor and control the energy supply such that when the control unit detects a fault in the at least two battery stacks, the control unit disconnects a faulty battery stack. The reservoir may be carried by the energy supply.
