Disclosed herein are embodiments of a method of accelerating bone healing in a subject in need thereof, comprising administering to the subject a compound disclosed here. The method may further comprise selecting or identifying a subject that has bone damage, or is a risk of developing bone damage. The compound may be administered after bone damage has occurred, or it may be administered prophylactically. The compound may be administered to a subject that has not and/or will not be exposed to radiation. In other embodiments, the subject has been and/or will be exposed to radiation.

Compounds for bone healing

A method of creating a formulation for a compound includes determining a compound interactive agent comprising at least one group that interacts with the compound, creating a carrier agent by conjugating at least one compound interactive domain comprising the at least one group that interacts with the compound with at least one hydrophilic domain, and combining the compound and the carrier agent to create the formulation. Creating the carrier agent may further include conjugating the at least one compound interactive domain with at least one hydrophobic domain so that the at least one compound interactive domain is positioned between the at least one hydrophilic domain and the at least one hydrophobic domain.

Provided herein are methods, for reducing, preventing, mitigating and treating damage caused by radiation. The methods comprise delivering a compound, as described herein, to a patient in an amount and dosage regimen effective to prevent, mitigate or treat damage caused by radiation or to mitigate apoptosis. The compounds comprise glyburide or other sulfonylurea hypoglycemic compounds or potassium channel inhibitors.

The present invention pertains to an apparatus for holding cells. Additionally, there is the step of determining the state of the cells.

Method and apparatus for holding cells

Provided herein are compositions and related methods useful for free radical scavenging, with particular selectivity for mitochondria. The compounds comprise a nitroxide-containing group attached to a mitochondria-targeting group. The compounds can be cross-linked into dimers without loss of activity. Also provided herein are methods, for preventing, mitigating and treating damage caused by radiation. The method comprises delivering a compound, as described herein, to a patient in an amount and dosage regimen effective to prevent, mitigate or treat damage caused by radiation.

Apparatus for holding cells

An emergency management system includes a plurality of command centers, each having real time updated information about an area of interest, a plurality of uniquely identifiable portable monitors, each of the monitors including a sensor portion for determining one or more exposure parameters, and each of the monitors including a communications portion for providing two-way communications over redundant communications channels with at least two of the command centers. Emergency management system

This invention relates to sequential methods of cryopreserving bone marrow stromal cells that are transfected and used for gene therapy by transplantation. These methods include the following steps in various orders: obtaining the cells, expanding the cells in culture, transfecting the cells, and cryopreserving the cells. With these methods, populations of bone marrow stromal cells can be acquired that are large enough to be useful in a number of therapies. Further, these large populations can be stored for extended periods of time for immediate use when needed.

Methods of preparing bone marrow stromal cells for use in gene therapy

A method of protecting a subject against an agent that elicits production of toxic free radicals, superoxide anions, or heavy metal cations in the subject is disclosed which entails in vivo administration to the subject of a polynucleotide encoding a protein that is transiently expressed in said subject. The transiently expressed protein is capable of neutralizing or eliminating the toxic free radicals, superoxide anions or heavy metal cations that are elicited by the agent. The method is particularly useful in protecting cancer patients against the damaging effects of ionizing radiation and chemotherapeutic drugs. A composition useful in carrying out the method also is disclosed.
