A method of making a carrier for growing cells, including providing a polymer film; embossing a patterned surface one or more sides of the polymer film with an embossing roller; generating a pattern of structured indentations on the polymer film; and discretizing the patterned polymer film into a plurality of portions. The embossing pattern generates relief features on the carrier surface. An alternative method of making a carrier is also provided, including extruding a polymer film; embossing a patterned surface on the polymer film with a roller; generating a pattern of structured indentations on the polymer film; imparting a surface treatment to the film; and discretizing the treated polymer film into a plurality of portions.

A process for preparing a polymer composition useful as a prepreg comprises (a) melt-mixing at least one thermoplastic polymer above the glass transition temperature or melt temperature of the thermoplastic polymer with either (i) an uncured epoxy resin or (ii) an epoxy curing agent or a catalyst; (b) melt-mixing above the glass transition temperature or melt temperature of the thermoplastic polymer, the other of (i) an uncured epoxy resin or (ii) an epoxy curing agent or a catalyst to form a substantially uncured but essentially curable and/or polymerizable composition; (c) optionally forming a shaped product from the melt-mixed composition of (b); and (d) fast-curing and/or fast-polymerizing the optionally formed shaped product.

Spiro(bis)indane polycarbonates, including homo- and copolycarbonates, are devolatilized by extrusion under conditions of low viscous dissipation and low residence time. By this method, volatile impurities including spiro(bis)indane cyclic dimer may be removed.

Compositions or composites comprising a polyphenylene ether-styrene resin blend or composition are disclosed which have electromagnetic shielding properties so that when the compositions are used for electronic equipment components or housings they provide shielding against electromagnetic interference referred to as EMI. The composites eliminate the secondary treatments which have been used heretofore to provide these shielding properties, such as the application of electrically conductive silver, nickel, copper and graphite coatings, or the use of metal screens. The novel compositions of a polyphenylene ether-styrene blend contain as a conductive material, which attenuates the EMI, aluminum flakes, or a combination of aluminum flakes with carbon fibers or with a highly conductive carbon black or a combination of carbon fibers with conductive carbon black, or carbon fibers per se.
