A method and apparatus are provided. The method provides display of preference information using depth perception, such as on a three dimensional display or in a virtual reality space. Objects are identified in an image or image sequence and assigned relevance information based on the preference information. Objects that are favored are shown in foreground planes of the display, to varying degrees based on the strength of the preference. Objects that are disfavored are shown in background planes of the display, also to varying degrees based on the strength of the preferences. Unidentified or neutral objects are shown at a base level, neither foreground nor background. An exemplary embodiment is provided for a movie database application with various actors shown pushed in or out. Another embodiment allows a user to adjust the plane of the objects to alter his preferences.

Use of depth perception as indicator of search, user interest or preference

A method for making a content recommendation to at least one user commences by first establishing a location for the at least one user. Thereafter a check occurs to determine which devices are available to the at least one user to use (e.g., consume) the content at the location. Next, the content available to the at least one user is determined based on at least the user's location and available devices available to the at least one user. A content recommendation is then made among the available content based on at least one attribute of the at least one user.

Management of the storage of media assets as between one of a plurality of content selection device (-) and a network storage facility () occurs in accordance with a user-assigned earliest viewing time assigned to the assets. To provide a user with the highest quality viewing experience, the network storage facility will down load to the requesting content selection device the requested media asset in advance of its earliest desired viewing time. To the extent that the content selection device lacks available storage capacity, then the content selection device will upload one or more media assets based on the earliest desired viewing time to off-load assets desired for viewing at a time later than the requested content.
