Disclosed herein is an acid-in-oil emulsion composition comprising an emulsifying agent; a dispersion agent; a base oil; and an acid, wherein the acid-in-oil emulsion composition is substantially devoid of priority pollutants. Disclosed herein too is a method for treating a hydrocarbon-bearing formation comprising blending an emulsifying agent, a base oil and an acid to produce an acid-in-oil emulsion, the acid-in-oil emulsion being substantially devoid of priority pollutants; and discharging the acid-in-oil emulsion into a downhole hydrocarbon-bearing well formation, where the acid-in-oil emulsion is operative to stimulate hydrocarbon production.

Acid-in-oil emulsion compositions and methods for treating hydrocarbon-bearing formations

A well servicing fluid is formulated by combining ingredients comprising: an aqueous based fluid comprising sulfate ions at a concentration greater than 50 mg/l; a chelating agent; and an acid in an amount sufficient to result in the well servicing fluid having a pH of 4.5 or less. A method of servicing a well is also disclosed.

Method of reclaiming brine solutions using an organic chelant

A method for removing or dissolving calcareous materials in a subterranean formation or in a wellbore consists of two basic steps. In the first step, an aqueous acid solution is injected into the formation or wellbore. The aqueous acid solution contains between from about 15 to about 99 weight percent of an organic acid selected from formic acid, acetic acid or a mixture of formic acid and acetic acid. Water or brine is then injected into the formation or wellbore. The amount of water or brine injected into the formation or wellbore is an amount sufficient to reduce the concentration of organic acid in the formation or wellbore to no greater than 10 weight percent.

Gelled organic compositions and methods for using same. The gelled compositions may be liquid organic fluids, such as gelled liquid hydrocarbons, formed from a mixture of an organic-base fluid, a carboxylic acid, and one or more metal source compounds, such as a metal salt of carboxylic acid. The gelled compositions may be used in variety of applications including, but not limited to, oil field, pipeline and processing facility applications.

A method of enhancing the productivity of hydrocarbons from hydrocarbon bearing siliceous formations, particularly those made up at least in part of zeolites, is achieved by contacting the formation with a treatment solution comprising citric acid, phosphonate compounds, and hydrofluoric acid. The treatment solution can be applied prior to gravel packing or fracturing. This solution may optionally contain ammonium salts. Other preflushes known in the art, such as hydrochloric, acetic or formic acid solutions, may also be used.

A particulate gel breaker for the controlled reduction in viscosity of aqueous acid compositions used in fracture acidizing of subterranean formations, such as in oil and gas wells, is formed for use with crosslinked polymer gels which are crosslinked with organometallic compounds, such as titanium or zirconium. The gel breaker is composed of particles containing complexing materials such as fluoride, phosphate, sulfate anions and multi-carboxylated compounds, which are capable of complexing with the organometallic crosslinking compounds of the gel. The particles are coated with a water insoluble wood resin coating which reduces the rate of release of the complexing materials of the particles so that the viscosity of the gel is reduced at a retarded rate. The gel can thus be introduced into the well at a sufficiently high viscosity for fracturing and to allow time for the acid to penetrate the formation before the acid is released.
