A capacitor manufacturing method is disclosed herein that includes a process for the isolation of electrode tabs attached to the capacitors' electrodes from other elements in the capacitor. An isolation patch or layer may be deposited over the tabs by a machine or a device after the tab is attached and before the electrodes are wound into a cylindrical internal element of a capacitor. The device may coat the tabs and surrounding regions with an isolating material. Electrode tabs may be provided with an isolating material pre-deposited at least in part over the tabs.

Enhanced capacitor tabs

A composite electrode foil roll for manufacturing an electrolytic capacitor, including: bands of electrode foils; strips of an isolating material positioned along a width of the composite electrode foil roll at a plurality of locations. The plurality of locations are at equal distances and correspond to a length of an inner cavity of a case of the electrolytic capacitor. The bands of electrode foils and strips of an isolating material are alternating. A method of manufacturing the composite electrode foil roll including alternating bands of electrode foils and strips of an isolating material. The strips are positioned along a width of the composite electrode foil roll at repeated locations. The repeated locations are at equal distances corresponding to a length of an inner cavity of a case of the electrolytic capacitor.

Electrolyte capacitor comprising isolated edges

Electrolytic capacitors may use a canister and a lid to confine an electrolyte and prevent the electrolyte from evaporating during use, and an improved seal between the canister and the lid may be achieved by increasing the surface area of the seal. For example, the surface area of the seal may be increased by changing the shape and/or thickness of the canister edge. For example, the surface area of the seal may be increased by changing the shape of an elastomer layer of the lid and/or adding an annular protuberance at the circumference of the lid. For example, the surface area of the seal may be changed by changing the process for forming the edge during the capacitor sealing.

Capacitor seals

Powders, electrodes, zinc-air batteries and corresponding methods are provided. Powders comprise perforated shells having a size of at least 100 nm and comprising openings smaller than 10 nm. The shells are electrically conductive and/or comprise an electrically conductive coating. Powders further comprise zinc and/or zinc oxide which resides at least partially within the shells. Methods comprise wetting the shells with a zinc solution to yield at least partial penetration of the zinc solution through the openings, and coating zinc internally in the shells by application of electric current to the shells. Upon electrode preparation from the powder, cell construction and cell operation, zinc is oxidized to provide energy and the shells retain formed Zn O therewith, providing sufficient volume for the associated expansion and maintaining thereby the mechanical stability and structure of the electrode&#x2014;to enable many operation cycles of the rechargeable zinc-air batteries.

Rechargeable zinc-air battery with perforated-shell active particles

The invention relates to a metal-air electrochemical cell comprising a frame () defining an electrolyte chamber having an anode side and a cathode side, wherein an air cathode assembly is provided in the cathode side, said air cathode assembly () comprising hydrophobic porous film having a first face and a second face, with current collector () and catalyst-containing active layer () provided on said first face, with the planar dimensions of the catalyst-containing active layer on said first face being smaller than that of said hydrophobic film and said current collector, such that the catalyst-containing active layer does not reach the edges of said hydrophobic film and said current collector, thereby creating a catalyst-free margin () on the hydrophobic film () and current collector which surrounds the catalyst-containing active layer, and wherein said first face of the hydrophobic film and said frame of the cell arm joined together by thermoplastic () applied onto the catalyst-free margin of the hydrophobic film. A method of assembling the metal/air cell is also described.

Electrode assembly and method for its preparation

The invention provides electrodes suitable for use as air electrodes, processes for their preparation and metal/air cells utilizing such electrodes as air cathodes. The invention relates to an electrode comprising a catalytically active layer applied on one face of a hydrophobic porous film and a conductive current collector pressed onto said catalytically active face, wherein at least a portion of the marginal area of said face is free from catalyst, and wherein a sealant is provided around at least part of the perimeter of said catalytically active layer, said sealant forming a coating onto the catalyst-free marginal area of said hydrophobic film.

This invention is directed to electrolysis-based devices and methods for recycling of electrolyte solutions. Specifically, the invention is related to regeneration of spent electrolyte solutions comprising metal ions such as electrolyte solutions used in metal/air batteries.

Electrolyte regeneration

An energy storage device comprising one or more cells, wherein each cell is defined by a pair of electrodes and a separator placed therebetween, wherein each cell is bounded by two current collectors, the geometric form and size of said separator being identical to the form and size of said current collectors, and wherein in each cell, one electrode is printed on one of said two current collectors and the other electrode is printed on one face of the separator, the two electrodes being electronically insulated by means of said separator, and wherein the peripheral region of the separator, which surrounds the electrode printed thereon, is sealed.

Multilayered electrochemical energy storage device and method of manufacture thereof

Apparatus and methodology subject matters relate to an improved electrochemical single or multi-cell energy storage device. Also, an outer casing may be provided as a pair of U-shaped shells, a single foil piece, or a tube-shaped structure which encases the internal electro chemical cell stack. The energy storage device and such casing when used advantageously exhibit low internal resistance, low ESR, a high voltage/capacity, and a low contact resistance between the internal stack and the outer casing.

The invention relates to an electrochemical cell including: at least a pair of current collector plates that are placed in parallel to each other, flat electrodes containing aqueous electrolyte printed on opposing faces of said current collectors, such that a peripheral region is defined on each of said faces of said current collectors, which region is not covered by said electrode, and a separating medium interposed between said electrodes, the geometric form and size of said separating medium being identical to the form and size of said current collector plates, said separating medium having a central region permeable to said electrolyte, surrounded by a peripheral masked region which is non-permeable to said electrolyte, such that the permeable region of said separating medium coincide with the electrodes printed on the opposing faces of said current collectors, with respect to position, geometric form and size; wherein the pores in the peripheral region of the separating medium are impregnated with a suitable sealant, and wherein one or more layers of adhesives are deposited on said sealant in said peripheral region.

Electrochemical cell and method for its preparation
