Apparatus, techniques and systems are described for facilitating identification of a target area during a probe-guided radio-localization surgical procedure. The described apparatus, techniques and systems can be used to implement a nuclear-uptake mode controller integrated into a probe to allow a user to instantly switch between multiple nuclear-uptake modes directly from the probe hand-piece. For example, a nuclear-uptake mode controller integrated into the probe can be used to instantly switch between a high-sensitivity nuclear uptake mode and a high-resolution nuclear-uptake mode toeffectively identify the target area in the presence of interfering nuclear signals by better matching the probe's nuclear detection parameters to a search task for that target area.

Disclosed technology can provide a process for generating reconstructed muon image resolution to optimize the use of the limited angular range muon track data collected by a muon tomography system. In one aspect, a process for improving reconstructed muon image resolution for a volume of interest (VOI) imaged by a muon tomography system includes: collecting raw muon track data of cosmic ray muon tracks passing through the VOI; grouping the raw muon track data into two or more subsets of tracks based on at least one angular distribution of the muon tracks in the raw muon track data; generating a set of images of the VOI based on the two or more subsets of tracks; and combining information from the set of reconstructed images and a reconstructed image based on the full set of the raw muon track data to obtain a resulting reconstructed image of the VOI.

An indirect connection to and across a photodiode array. The backside contact is used as one portion which connects to a capacitor. The capacitor forms a shunt across the bulk substrate, thus shunting across the series resistance of the substrate, and reducing the series resistance.

Events of interest are detected within a gamma ray detection system. Characteristics of undesired signals, including a multiplicity of events within the signal, a density of events within the signal, and other aspects are determined. The signal is filtered based on its expected characteristics. A signal which does not have the expected characteristics is rejected, and an image is formed that excludes those rejected signals.

Signal enhancement module

An embedded power supply for providing a voltage on a detector module within an imaging system provides the required potential to the module from charge stored on an output capacitor. Charge on the capacitor is replenished by injecting, commonly referred to as pumping, current into the capacitor by pulses of current generated by switching mode circuitry. Charge pumping into the capacitor is efficient because energy is stored in low-loss passive components and transferred into the low-loss output capacitor through low-impedance paths. Switching noise of the power supply is eliminated by turning off the charge pumping circuit during periods when such noise would disrupt the operation of the module, for example when the module is reading out image data. The output capacitor is large enough to supply the required voltage to the module for a certain period when the capacitor is not being pumped.
