A system and method of transmitting vehicle information from a vehicle to a server across an external network. A vehicle bus connector module is plugged into a vehicle bus through the vehicle's vehicle bus connector. The vehicle bus connector module is also communicatively connected to a personal communications device. Vehicle information is collected from the vehicle bus and combined with information captured by the personal communications device to form a driver log. The driver log is transmitted to the server via the external network.

Various embodiments include a method and system for configuring a smart energy network using a link key database. An energy services interface, on the smart energy network, extracts a unique identifier associated with a smart energy device from a communication with the smart energy device. The energy services interface may then use the unique identifier to receive information associated with the smart energy device from the link key database.

Various embodiments include a smart energy gateway. The smart energy gateway includes a housing and a power plug integrated into the housing. The smart energy gateway can be mounted to an electrical outlet via the power plug. The smart energy gateway also includes a controller configured to accept transmissions from a smart energy network and communicate a subset of the transmissions to an external network. Various embodiments include a method and system for configuring a smart energy network using an auxiliary gateway where an auxiliary gateway is capable of communicating with an energy services interface and a link key database. The auxiliary gateway, on a smart energy network, extracts the unique identifier from a communication related to the smart energy device. The auxiliary gateway may then use the unique identifier to retrieve the smart energy device information from the link key database and communicate the smart energy device information to the energy services interface. The energy services interface may then use the smart energy device information to decrypt a communication from the smart energy device or access manufacturer specific functionality of the smart energy device.

A system for pulling video content over a data communications network. The system comprises at least one video display, at least one video file server containing a number of video files to be selectively displayed on the at least one video display, at least one media server to communicate with one or more video displays, a web client to communicate with each media server through a network to configure at least one playlist in the media server, each playlist including at least one identifier to select one or more of the number of video files, and each media server being adapted to pull video content from a selected video file in a selected video file server based on the playlist and to translate the pulled video content into a video output signal suitable for display on the video display.

A system and method of mapping remote ports so that they appear as local ports. One or more accounts is created, including a first and a second account, wherein the first account is assigned to a first user and the second account is assigned to a first computer. A plurality of first ports are assigned to the first account. A plurality of second ports are assigned to the second account. One of the second ports is mapped to a local port on the first computer. Another of the second ports is mapped to a remote port such that the remote port appears as a local port on the second computer. The first user is logged into a second computer and, while the first user is logged into the second computer, one of the first ports is mapped to a local port on the second computer and another of the first ports is mapped to a remote port such that the remote port appears as a local port on the second computer.

A system and method of configuring an embedded system from removable media. The removable media is connected to the embedded system and the embedded system determines if the removable media includes a configuration key. If the removable media includes a configuration key, the embedded system determines if the configuration key includes configuration data applicable to the embedded system and, if the removable media includes a configuration key and the configuration key includes configuration data applicable to the embedded system, the embedded system applies the configuration data to the embedded system.

A Management Information Base (MIB) in a computer device adapted to use Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). The MIB comprises at least one message construct to function as a definition for a constrained attribute set for an object in a remote device that has a device-specific communication protocol. Each message construct includes a number of entries, and each entry stores a user-specified value for the definition of the constrained attribute set. One of the number of entries in the message construct includes a user-specified message string mapped to the constrained attribute set for the object in the remote device. The message string is sufficiently compatible with the device-specific communication protocol for the constrained attribute set and the MIB allows the constrained attribute set to be managed using SNMP.

A system and method of booting an embedded system having a processor, nonvolatile memory and a remote media interface connected to the processor. Boot code is executed within the nonvolatile memory. The processor determines if a storage device is connected to the remote media interface and, if a storage device is connected to the remote media interface, program code loaded from the storage device to the processor is executed.
