An apparatus for interrogating a media to be analyzed, such as an avian egg, is provided. Such an apparatus includes an emitter assembly configured to emit light toward a media. The emitter assembly has a first emitter source configured to emit a first light signal and a second emitter source configured to emit a second light signal. The first and second light signals are transmitted through the media in phase quadrature. A detector assembly is configured to detect the first and second light signals transmitted through the media. The detector assembly is further configured to resolve a relative or absolute amplitude of each of the first and second light signals. A processor is configured to process the detected signal to identify a property of the media using at least one of the relative and absolute amplitudes of the first and second light signals. An associated method is also provided.

An egg identification system for determining viability of an avian egg is provided. Such a system includes an emitter assembly configured to emit electromagnetic radiation having a predetermined wavelength toward an egg. A detector assembly is spaced-apart from the emitter assembly and configured to detect electromagnetic radiation transmitted through the egg. A light controlling assembly is positioned proximate to the emitter assembly. The light controlling assembly includes an absorbing layer configured to absorb electromagnetic radiation at the predetermined wavelength. The absorbing layer defines an opening through which electromagnetic radiation emitted from the emitter assembly is capable of passing therethrough toward the egg. A processor is configured to process an output signal of the detector assembly to determine viability of the egg. An associated method is also provided.

An egg identification system for determining viability of an avian egg is provided. Such a system includes an emitter assembly configured to emit electromagnetic radiation toward an egg. A detector assembly is axially aligned with the emitter assembly to detect electromagnetic radiation transmitted through the egg. The detector assembly is spaced-apart from the egg during operation thereof such that the detector assembly does not contact the egg. The detected electromagnetic radiation is processed using transmission spectroscopy analysis to determine whether the egg is viable. An associated method is also provided.

An egg identification system for determining viability of an avian egg is provided. Such a system includes an emitter assembly configured to emit electromagnetic radiation toward an egg. A detector assembly is axially aligned with the emitter assembly to detect electromagnetic radiation transmitted through the egg. The detector assembly is spaced-apart from the egg during operation thereof such that the detector assembly does not contact the egg. The detected electromagnetic radiation is used to generate an output signal. The output signal is processed to determine whether there exists a periodic variation or an aperiodic perturbation in an intensity of the electromagnetic radiation transmitted through the egg corresponding to action of a heart or embryo movement, wherein the existence of the periodic variation or aperiodic perturbation indicates that the egg is viable. An associated method is also provided.

Non-contact egg identification system for determining egg viability, and associated method

Electronic clock calibration systems, methods, and computer program products use a calibration reference signal to calibrate an electronic clock that generates an output signal and that is responsive to a base reference signal. The base reference signal is less accurate than the calibration reference signal and, therefore, has an actual frequency and an ideal frequency associated therewith. The difference between the actual frequency and the ideal frequency represents the inaccuracy of the base reference signal. The calibration reference signal may be used to determine this difference between the actual frequency and ideal frequency of the base reference signal. Once this difference is determined, the frequency of the electronic clock output signal may be adjusted to compensate for the inaccuracy of the base reference signal. The base reference signal is often generated by a crystal oscillator circuit in consumer electronic devices, which is susceptible to frequency drift based on age, temperature, shock, and other environmental factors. Crystal oscillator circuits have an advantage in that they use relatively little power and, thus, tend to preserve battery life. The accuracy of a crystal oscillator circuit may be improved through use of a more accurate calibration reference signal that need not be available continuously.

A backlighting circuit for user interface in an electronic device includes at least one light emitting diode optically coupled to the user interface wherein the at least one light emitting diode provides backlighting for the user interface. A current source is electrically coupled in series with the at least one light emitting diode wherein the current source controls a current through the at least one diode. In addition, a brownout detection circuit determines a brownout condition for the user interface responsive to the current through the diode. A method and apparatus interleaves flash memory programming with E,ROM memory programming. In exemplary embodiments, the E,ROM accepts data in units of pages, whereas the flash memory accepts data in units of pages or individual bytes. As such, a first exemplary technique interleaves page-write E,ROM programming with page-write flash memory programming. A second exemplary technique interleaves page-write E,ROM programming with byte-write flash memory programming. Portions of the E,ROM programming are performed in parallel with portions of the flash memory programming, thereby expediting overall programming time (compared to performing E,ROM and flash memory programming in serial fashion).

Method and apparatus for initializing semiconductor memory

A battery powered radio device includes a transmitter, a control circuit, and a lockout circuit. The transmitter transmits radio communications and the transmitter includes a power amplifier which generates an amplified radiofrequency output signal. More particularly, the power amplifier uses both a positive supply voltage and a negative bias voltage for operation wherein the negative bias voltage is less than a supply ground voltage. The control circuit enables the power amplifier during transmission, and the control circuit includes a switch coupled in series between a positive supply voltage and the power amplifier. The switch is activated in response to a transmit activation signal when the negative bias voltage is coupled to the power amplifier. The lockout circuit prevents activation of the switch in response to the transmit activation signal when the negative bias voltage is not coupled to the power amplifier. In addition, the switch can be activated in response to a transmit activation signal by applying the negative bias voltage to the switch control gate and deactivated in the absence of the transmit activation signal by applying the positive supply voltage to the switch control gate.
