This invention relates to a multi-layer material that comprises a substrate made of aluminum, magnesium or their alloys, having possibly been subjected to a surface treatment, this substrate being provided with a coating comprising a tungsten based deposit and an under-layer--inserted between said substrate and said deposit--of a material having mechanical and thermo-mechanical properties intermediate to those of said substrate and said deposit. This under-layer is made up of at least one layer of a material chosen from among chromium, molybdenum, niobium, titanium, zirconium, their nitrides and carbides, solid solutions of carbon and of nitrogen in said metals, and steels and greatly improves the adherence of said coating to said substrate. The invention also relates to the anti-erosion, anti-abrasion, anti-wear coating comprising said tungsten based deposit and said under-layer.

A field effect electron source includes a grid electrode formed over an insulating layer that covers a cathode electrode formed on an insulating substrate. Holes are provided in the grid electrode-insulating layer structure, the holes extending to the cathode electrode formed on the insulating substrate. Electron emitting microheaps are formed within the holes above the exposed portions of the cathode electrode on the substrate. These microheaps each include at least a macropile of carbon diamond or diamond like carbon powder grains surrounded by the sidewalls of the hole.

The invention relates to non-aqueous suspensions for the deposition of luminescent materials, particularly phosphors by electrophoresis. These suspensions comprise an organic, polar solvent constituted by a mixture of nitromethane and an aliphatic alcohol such as isopropyl alcohol, containing in solution at least one metal salt and at least one vegetable protein, as well as a powder of the luminescent material to be deposited in suspension in said solvent. These suspensions can be used for the production of tricolour screens having conductor tracks (15, 16, 17) covered with first colour (18), a second colour (19) and a third colour (20), the excitation of the phosphors being carried out by means of an electron source (1) having an emissive cathode with microtips (1c).

The invention relates to a process for the treatment of a metal oxide powder, particularly a UO.sub.2 or PuO.sub.2 powder, with a view to its fritting. This process consists of oxidizing the powder, so as to form on its surface a hydrated oxide layer of the same metal. When the oxide is UO.sub.2 or PuO.sub.2 and mixtures thereof, as well as those prepared with ThO.sub.2, the treated powder can be used for producing nuclear fuel pellets by cold compression, followed by fritting.
