In one aspect, methods of printing a color 3D article are described herein. In some embodiments, a method described herein comprises receiving data representing a surface colorization of the article, and transforming the data representing the surface colorization of the article into voxel data of the article. The voxel data comprises (a) location values and at least one of (b) color values and (c) transparency values for a plurality of columns of voxels normal or substantially normal to a surface of the article. The method further comprises selectively depositing layers of one or more build materials onto a substrate to form the article in accordance with the voxel data. In addition, at least one column of the plurality of columns of voxels exhibits a surface color resulting from a combination of colors of a plurality of voxels of the column.

3D printing colorization

A method of compensating for a defective inkjet in an inkjet printer has been developed. A controller identifies pixels in binary image data corresponding to the defective inkjet. The controller identifies alternative pixel locations for non-defective inkjets to print ink drops proximate to the locations of the defective pixels. When an overlap parameter value identified between ink drops in alternative pixel locations and other ink drops around the alternative pixel locations exceeds a predetermined value, the controller changes the alternative pixel location for at least one ink drop to reduce overlap and improve image quality.

System and method of compensating for defective inkjets

In an inkjet printer, a method for compensating for an inoperable inkjet includes identifying a density of image data in a region having a predetermined length in a process direction and at least one pixel corresponding to the inoperable inkjet. One other inkjet in the printer is operated to print ink drops onto an image receiving surface at a plurality of locations corresponding to the plurality of activated pixels for the inoperable inkjet in response to the identified density for the region exceeding a predetermined density threshold.

System and method for inoperable inkjet compensation

A method of indirect printing has been developed to split printing of an imaging revolution on the image drum. A portion of the image is printed on the drum corresponding from an intermediate edge to a trailing edge of image data, and subsequently a remaining portion is printed corresponding from a leading edge to the intermediate edge of the image data. Splitting the image revolution enables the imaging to begin earlier in the drum revolution and decreases the total number of revolutions needed to complete a printed page, increasing printer throughput.

An inkjet printer has been developed, which identifies one or more printing metrics and selects a corrective operation for image data. After application of the corrective operation to image data, firing signals are generated with reference to the modified image data to compensate for an inoperative inkjet in a printhead of the inkjet printer.

A method evaluates image quality in an ink printing system and generates data values for altering the operation of the ink printing system. The method includes generating an ink image on an ink image receiving member that corresponds to a digital image stored in the ink printing system, generating a scanned image signal corresponding to the ink image, generating firing signal waveform adjustments and image data adjustments with reference to the scanned image signal corresponding to the ink image, and operating a printhead in an ink imaging system with reference to the firing signal waveform adjustments and the image data adjustments.

A dual-drop mode for a printer uses at least two full length waveforms and switches between the waveforms according to one or more patterning methodologies to print a page length document having a dual drop size print pattern across the printed portion of the page. This achieves printing from individual jet nozzles of either a large drop or a small drop. The page size patterning methodology is performed globally on at least a sub-page basis, rather than on a pixel-by-pixel basis and may be performed based on or independent of specific image data.
