A universal hinged tread system includes a folding stair set with one or more primary treads. At least one auxiliary tread is hingedly attached atop at least one primary tread. The folding stair set includes at least two hingedly attached sections. The hingedly attached sections fold flat against each other when in a stowed position, and every other folding stair section is inverted when in the stowed position. Each auxiliary tread is angularly displaced from its primary tread as its folding stair section is inverted. The auxiliary treads do not obstruct any primary treads on other sections when in a stowed position. The auxiliary treads include a beveled lower front edge to aid the auxiliary treads in deflecting.

A threshold system includes modular plastic substrate sections of predetermined lengths that are attachable together end-to-end in a number of configurations to form substrates of various total lengths. A threshold assembly of a desired length is assembled by attaching selected substrate sections together to form a support substrate having a length corresponding to the sums of the lengths of the substrate sections, mounting an extruded aluminum sill to the support substrate, and mounting a threshold cap in the upwardly open channel formed by the attached substrate sections and the sill. A nosing strip may be secured along the inside of the finished threshold to cover the intersections between joined substrate sections and to provide an aesthetically pleasing appearance from the inside of a building in which the threshold is installed.

A threshold assembly includes a unitary compression molded plastic composite body formed to define an upwardly open threshold cap channel, jamb boots at its ends, and a support substrate outboard of the channel. An extruded aluminum sill plate is snapped into place on the plastic body and a vertically adjustable threshold cap is disposed in the upwardly open channel. Drain channels may be formed in the plastic body to direct water outwardly and away from the threshold assembly. The plastic body forms a stable foundation that will not rot, swell, or rack in the presence of moisture and fabrication of the assembly is greatly simplified as compared to traditional threshold assemblies.

An entryway system includes an elongated threshold assembly and a pair of plastic jamb boots attached to the ends of the threshold assembly. The jamb boots have flat level upper faces and a pair of jambs having square-cut bottoms are secured to the jamb boots and extend upwardly from the threshold assembly. A head jamb completes a door frame. The jamb boots may be formed with integral drains that receive water from within the threshold cap channel of the threshold assembly and direct it away from the entryway. The plastic jamb boots prevent rotting and eliminate the need to mill the bottoms of jambs with haunches configured to fit the threshold assembly. Plastic mull post boots also are provided for supporting square-cut bottom mull posts in sidelight or double door entryways.

An improved corner pad for sealing the bottom corner of a closed door has a sloped upper surface that forms a reservoir between the closed door and the jamb. Rainwater that is blown up the weather strip by wind is collected in the reservoir until the wind subsides, whereupon the water simply drains out. As a result, leakage into a dwelling at the bottom corner of the entryway is managed and contained.
