A process for the manufacture of an insulating product based on mineral fibres bonded by an organic binder, includes applying a sizing composition to the mineral fibres, forming an assembly of the mineral fibres, heating the assembly of mineral fibres until the sizing composition has cured, wherein the sizing composition includes the following constituents within the limits defined below, expressed as fractions by weight with respect to the total weight of the composition: from 80% to 98% of water, from 2% to 20% of water-soluble poly(furfuryl alcohol) and less than 0.5% of furfuryl alcohol, and the mineral fibres are fibres of aluminosilicate glass including aluminum oxide, AlO, in a fraction by weight of between 14% and 28%.

Process for the manufacture of an insulating product based on mineral fibres

A process for manufacturing insulating products based on mineral wool includes: the application, on mineral wool fibers, of a binder composition containing (a) at least one carbohydrate selected from reducing sugars, non-reducing sugars, hydrogenated sugars and a mixture thereof, and (b) at least one crosslinking agent for crosslinking the carbohydrate(s); the evaporation of the solvent phase of the binder composition; and the thermal curing of the non-volatile fraction of the composition. A polysaccharide-free oil-in-water emulsion comprising water, a mineral oil and from 0.5 to 5.0 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of mineral oil of at least one preferably nonionic surfactant, is added to the binder composition, preferably immediately before the application thereof onto the mineral wool fibers, the mean diameter of the oil droplets of the oil-in-water emulsion, determined by laser diffraction particle size analysis, being greater than 5 &#x3bc;m.

Method for the production of mineral wool

A process for manufacturing insulating products based on mineral wool includes applying, on mineral wool fibers, a binding composition containing (a) at least one carbohydrate selected from reducing sugars, non-reducing sugars, hydrogenated sugars, and a mixture thereof, and (b) at least one crosslinking agent for crosslinking the carbohydrate(s). The process also includes evaporating the solvent phase of the binding composition and thermal curing the non-volatile fraction of the composition. Further, added to the binding composition, preferably immediately before the application thereof on the mineral wool fibers, is an oil-in-water emulsion including water, a mineral oil, at least one nonionic surfactant and a water-soluble polysaccharide. The mean diameter of the oil droplets of the stable oil-in-water emulsion, determined by laser diffraction particle size analysis, is greater than 5 &#x3bc;m.
