An anti-short bushing, for use between a tubular metal sheath and an electrical conductor carried within the metal sheath, comprising a tubular insulative unit configured to be inserted between the sheath and the conductor. The tubular insulative unit is formed as a single molded piece having three connected segments. Two of the segments are generally semi-cylindrical and each has a shoulder projecting radially therefrom at one end. The two segments are connected by an elongated hinge which permits them to be folded relative to one another to form a tubular configuration with their shoulders forming a partial circumferential shoulder. The third segment is connected to the elongated hinge by a second hinge to permit the third segment to be rotated to project radially outwardly so as to form with the two shoulders of the other two segments a complete circumferential shoulder.

This invention provides apparatus and a method for forming, filling, sealing and cutoff of a package in which a thermoform film rigid bottom member is formed in a forming station adjustably positioned on a base. A loading station and a sealing station like the forming station, also adjustably positioned, are also provided. Both the forming and sealing stations have an adjusting guide means in which the roll supply is carried on a tubular support and the guides are carried on a hingedly secured threaded rod. The lower film and sealing cover as a strip are advanced by edge clamp means, with a first pair of clamps adjustably positioned and carried by a support and a second pair of clamps adjustably positioned on a support reciprocably moved along slide rails by a rotary actuator with an actuated drag link and crank arm. The acceleration and deceleration are produced by the drag link and alternate clamping and unclamping of the strip by valve means.

Table-top apparatus and method for forming sealing packages

This invention includes apparatus providing for continuous motion and constant velocity to a traveling web usually including at least one film. A pair of grippers are arranged to grasp the film and are alternately actuated to advance the web. Each of the grippers are carried on the distal end of a reciprocated member. A motor is connected to a first shaft to turn four sprockets carried thereon. Each sprocket engages a roller chain assembly arranged in an endless manner and disposed to be moved in an oblong path. The roller chains are moved in a reciprocable path by one of a pair of crank arms driving and moving Pitman arms connected thereto. The oblong roller chains are operatively connected to and move lever arms pivotally connected to drag links which in turn move the reciprocated members. The apparatus includes a crank arm, a Pitman arm, drag links and reciprocable member with each as an assembly moved one hundred eighty degrees out-of-phase with a like assembly. The reciprocable movement of the frame carrying the oblong roller chains lengthens the forward stroke and shortens the rearward stroke while the speed of the roller chain remains constant. An overlap of the gripper actuation is provided by reciprocably moving the frame carrying the roller chain while moving the roller chain at a constant speed.

Continuous motion, constant velocity web feeding apparatus

There is shown apparatus and method for producing a container preferably made or constructed of heat sealable material. Shaping of the container is by forming and not heat stretching or other distortions. In the depicted examples of the container the travelling strip is formed with a midwidth transverse cut leaving on and at each edge a carrier strip. The formed container is preferably filled with a product and then a cover to retain the product is brought to this container and heat sealed in place by the apparatus. After this filling and sealing, the package is further severed at the prior transverse cut to make separate packages.

Apparatus and method for producing a container for foods and the like

There is disclosed a form, fill and seal apparatus for liquids, semi-liquids and powders. The apparatus contemplates the use of two films and the sloping of the first seal and filling station at from ten degrees to a vertical condition. Contrary to the many arrangements and apparatus showing a single film and fill apparatus, this application allows and encourages single and plural filling simultaneously of pouches formed in two films. The pouch is formed by a U-shaped seal that enables a longer seal time to be employed rather than the longitudinal sealing means often employed. The feeding tube is fixed in place and the package as it is formed and filled is advanced past the fill tube. The filled pouches have the sides bowed and/or skewed to accommodate insertion of the spout and fill contents. The open top of the formed and filled pouch, when moved from the spout, is brought from its bowed condition to a contiguous and wrinkle free condition whereat it is sealed.

There is shown an inking apparatus for stamping on a localized area, and with a speedy application, a selected reproduction to a travelling or advanced product. This inking roller is free-turning with a light brake to prevent free wheeling. A four-bar linkage is used with two eccentrics. One eccentric is preferably rotated with at least twice the revolutions of the other eccentric. The four-bar linkage carries on an extending end of a first bar the stamp which is moved into peripheral engagement of the inking roller and then to the surface of the product. The movement of the stamp is in a path prescribed by the eccentrics and the four-bar linkage. The stamp in its peripheral engagement with the inking roller causes said roller to be inched forward rotationally to present a fresh surface to the stamp when next brought to the inking roller.

This invention pertains to a disposable tubular cartridge and apparatus for expelling the contents from said cartridge. This novel apparatus does not employ the conventional U-shaped receiver into which the cartridge is placed but provides a self-contained handle to which the rear of the cartridge is attached. This handle is usually a pistol grip in shape. Rather than a rigid ratchet expelling shaft and an exterior twist handle the present apparatus provides a curved trackway and an expelling drive train, a portion of which is flexible in one direction. The drive train has a ratchet engaged and moved by a lever handle and a pivoted pawl leaf. A stop finger is carried by this lever handle and is disposed to prevent counterflow movement of the drive train. Several methods are shown for attaching the tubular container and the drive train is also shown employing several alternate constructions. In each embodiment the lever handle and associated members are swung to a disengaged condition whereat and whereby the piston disc carried by a rigid shank portion may be manipulated for moving the drive train to a retracted position and condition.

Apparatus and method for producing a container for food and the like

A controlled film advance apparatus is disclosed in my U.S. Pat. No. 4,048,782 as issued on Sept. 20, 1977. It has been found that the apparatus and method of film advance as carried on the frame of the reference patent is advantageously returned at a speed which is greater than the forward speed. This film is intermittently moved and provides a longer period of repose as the films are formed, shaped or provided with similar operations. The improvement as shown in the drawings provides a means to adjust the speed of travel in and by the drive mechanism. Also shown is a speed reducer mechanism used in conjunction with the film advance apparatus.

The rotary dispenser of this invention includes a plurality (such as ten) of outer disk-like members of which each is formed with a plurality of like-sized and spaced pockets. Each outer disk is supported and positively positioned by an inner tubular supporting member. This member is carried by a tubular shaft carrying all rotary dispensers. Each pocket in the outer disk is closed by a spring strip having resilient side supports. Pins are carried in guideways and the outer end of each pin engages the bottom spring-like strip and the other end of the pin is carried on and is moved in and out by a conical ring carried by a spine shaft movable within the tubular shaft. This spine shaft is moved longitudinally by a threaded portion rotatably carried by a nut secured to the tubular shaft. The dispenser is rotated with the same peripheral speed as a travelling web of material.

The apparatus and method of this invention pertains to a web film advance in which a film advancing roll is carried on a frame moved by a reciprocating pitman arm. This arm is adjustable as to its stroke or travel so that a corresponding travel of the frame is also selectively adjustable. The film advancing roll is carried by a shaft mounted in bearings and is prevented from turning in one direction by a one-way clutch apparatus. This clutch allows the roll to be rotated only when the frame and roll are moved rearwardly. During this film feeding advance by the roller a rotation of the roller is achieved by a roller chain and a sprocket or a timing belt and toothed pulley. This chain or belt may be moved a small amount in response to an electrical signal to bring the web of film or paper into registration in accordance with mark indicia. Bags or simply formed, filled and sealed packages may be made by and on this simplified yet highly reliable film advancing apparatus.
