A telephony call manager includes a call model having call processing logic, and a signaling interface for each respective signaling protocol encountered by the call manager. Each signaling interface is operable to convert call events in each respective signaling protocol to messages of a generic protocol and communicate the messages to the call model.

System and method for telephony call control

A method of dynamically balancing work among a plurality of processing nodes is provided. The method includes the steps of periodically updating a node occupancy value at each of the plurality of processing nodes, communicating the respective node occupancy value of each processing node to at least one work originator node, storing the node occupancy values of the plurality of processing nodes at the at least one work originator node, and selecting, by the at least one work originator node, a processing node to perform a particular task in response to the node occupancy values of the processing nodes.

System and methods of dynamic load balancing across processor nodes

An optimal digit translation and call processing system and method is provided. A prefix translation and digit characterization process are performed utilizing a digit prefix table and a second table interfaced therewith. The digit prefix table contains numerous records corresponding to prefixes of dialed digit streams. Each record includes an index to a record of a second table operable to output a termination type of the digit stream. The second table includes numerous records associated with various call termination types. Each index included within respective records of the digit prefix table may reference more than one record of the second table. The digit stream length is analyzed to resolve ambiguities in the digit stream when an index in a record of the digit prefix table references more than one record of the second table. Multiple records of the digit prefix table may have a common index to an identical record of the second table thus reducing the required number of records in the second table for characterizing call termination types. A call screening table is interrogated with termination type data obtained from the second table. The call screening table can pass call control to a national or international translator table which provide a route index on which further call processing is performed. The route index may be modified by an originator routing table, a carrier identification code routing table and a time of day routing table before the call is ultimately routed.

Call processing digit translation and characterization

Method for controlling usage of phone debit cards and an associated telephony system which incorporates the same. A switch receives requests to complete telephone calls to destination terminals and to assess fees associated with the requested telephone calls to a phone debit card account. Upon receipt of such a request, the switch asks an SCP to verify that the account is valid and has sufficient credit to complete the requested call. Upon being advised of the same, the switch completes the call. The switch then requests that the SCP deduct the cost of a first minute of the call from the account. When the switch has been advised that the cost of the first minute has been deducted from the account, the switch sets a timer. If the call is continuing when the minute expires, the switch will request that the SCP deduct the cost of the next minute from the account. The process then repeats until either the call has been released by either the originating or destination terminal or the entire value of the phone debit card has been consumed and the switch has released the call.
