The present invention provides a hydrophilic charged microporous membrane comprising a porous hydrophobic substrate and a coating comprising a charge-providing agent. The present invention further provides a hydrophilic charged membrane comprising a porous hydrophobic substrate and a hydrophilic charge-providing agent distributed within the substrate. The present invention further provides a filter as well as a filter device comprising the inventive hydrophilic charged membrane. The present invention further provides a process for treating a fluid containing bacterial contaminants such as endotoxins comprising contacting the membrane with the fluid to provide a bacterial contaminant depleted fluid.

Charged membrane

An extend long life juice carton structure is provided which has low oxygen permeability, is leak free, has minimal flavor loss, and excellent bulge resistance and durability characteristics without sacrificing the ability to skive the side seam or use hydrogen peroxide as a sterilizing substance. The container structure has a polyamide polymer layer, a layer of ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer with an ethylene comonomer content of 27-32 mole %, and a thin matte side layer polyolefin polymer.

Extended long life juice carton structure and method of construction

A method of decreasing the bulge of gable top cartons by evaluating and modifying top sealing heat patterns. Cartons are formed, dye stained and the quality of the seal evaluated for heat damage and top seal quality. The heating pattern is adjusted as required, and the resulting heat seal is reevaluated to determine if further adjustments are required, so that the resulting cartons can achieve a near air-tight condition in the headspace of the carton to thereby resist bulging.

Method of controlling bulging of gable top cartons

A method of forming a non-foil barrier laminate structure which can be made into a container using radio-frequency heat-sealing techniques. The structure incorporates radio-frequency sealable ethyl acrylates which, in combination with additional thermoplastic material layers, produce a structure that can be formed, filled and sealed into cartons on commercially available form-fill-seal-machinery fitted with a radio frequency generator and sealing tool.

Method of radio frequency sealing non-foil packaging structures

A method of improving heat-seals for polyolefin polymers which are coated onto a paperboard substrate. The method obviates the need for use of a curable bonding agent. The materials are exposed to high energy radiation prior to formation of the heat seal to induce crosslinking of the poller and thereby increase the average molecular weight of same.

Heat-seals for polyolefins

The specification discloses a multilaminar paperboard composite having improved recyclability and methods for forming and recycling the paperboard composite. The paperboard composite comprises a paperboard substrate having two surfaces, a highly alcoholized polyvinyl alcohol binder layer adjacent at least one surface of the paperboard substrate and a polyethylene polymeric layer bound to the polyvinyl alcohol layer. The highly alcoholized polyvinyl alcohol layer is present in an amount of from about 2 to about 12 pounds per 3000 square feet of substrate.

Recyclable paperboard composites

The present invention relates to a novel coextrusion coating for paper or paperboard substrates. The coextrusion includes a nonpolar polymer layer and a thin exterior skin layer made up of a nonpolar polymer and a polar copolymer. The addition of the polar polymer improves long term treatment level retention which improves long term wettability for printing and gluing adhesion during package or carton formation.

Paperboard laminates having polar copolymer/nonpolar polymer blend

A dual ovenable paperboard based structure which contains a food contact resin layer. The resin layer in direct contact with the ovenable food product exhibits superior food release properties, grease and oil resistance, and resistance to warpage even after extended periods of time following oven heating. The unique laminate is formed via coextrusion coating techniques on conventional coextrusion equipment at conventional temperatures. The resulting product has a high degree of adhesion between the paperboard and the polymethylpentene food contact layer, and is capable of being utilized for forming pressed or locked corner food trays which can be subjected to oven cooking temperatures.
