A magnet encapsulated within a canister formed from two cans into a laminated structure particularly useful in plasma processing reactors. Each can includes an end wall and a cylindrical sidewall. One can additionally includes an annular lip that slidably fits outside the sidewall of the other can with a small gap therebetween. The magnet is inserted into the two cans together with a flowable and curable adhesive such as epoxy. The cans are slid together and compressed to cause the adhesive to flow between the magnet and the two cans and between the lip of one can and the sidewall of the other. The adhesive is cured to bond the magnet to the cans and to bond the cans together and to also hermetically seal the structure. The cans may be deep drawn from non-magnetic stainless steel with wall thicknesses of less than 0.064 mm.

A component for a substrate processing chamber has a structure composed of aluminum oxide. The structure has a roughened surface having a roughness average of from about 150 to about 450 microinches. A plasma sprayed ceramic coating of aluminum oxide is deposited on the roughened surface of the structure. The component may be a dome shaped ceiling of the chamber.

Chamber having components with textured surfaces and method of manufacture

A domed enclosure wall for a plasma processing chamber is made from a dielectric material having a roughened surface with a roughness average of from about 150 to about 450 microinches. A plasma sprayed ceramic coating is applied on the roughened surface of the dielectric material. The plasma sprayed coating comprises a textured surface having a roughness with an average skewness that is a negative value. When the enclosure wall is used in a plasma processing chamber, sputtered material generated by a plasma formed in a plasma processing chamber has good adherence to the textured surface.

Chamber components having textured surfaces and method of manufacture

A corrosion-resistant protective coating for an apparatus and method of processing a substrate in a chamber containing a plasma of a processing gas. The protective coating or sealant is used to line or coat inside surfaces of a reactor chamber that are exposed to corrosive processing gas that forms the plasma. The protective coating comprises at least one polymer resulting from a monomeric anaerobic chemical mixture having been cured in a vacuum in the absence of oxygen. The protective coating includes a major proportion of at least one methacrylate compound and a minor proportion of an activator compound which initiates the curing process of the monomeric anaerobic mixture in the absence of oxygen or air.

Corrosion-resistant protective coating for an apparatus and method for processing a substrate

A method for determining the quality of a protective coating or layer on a structure inside of a reactor chamber. The method includes generating a basis, such as a standard scatter band of impedance, as an acceptable standard for the quality of a protective layer on the inside of a reactor chamber. At least one substrate is processed within a reactor chamber containing a protective coating for protecting the inside of the reactor chamber during processing of the substrate. The method further includes determining the quality of the protective coating, such as by measuring protective characteristics of the protective coating. A method for on-line monitoring of a quality of a coating on the inside of a reactor chamber.
