A pocketed coil spring assembly for use in the manufacture of mattresses or cushions or the like comprising a plurality of strips of integrally connected closed fabric pockets each containing one helically coiled wire compression spring having its axis disposed transversely of the strip, and wherein each of the strips contains a single band of interconnected springs formed from a single length of wire into a plurality of interconnected helical coil springs. The springs of the bands may contain inserts such as foam cylinders or pocketed coil springs to impart differing degrees of firmness to different strips. Adjacent coil springs may be separated by multiple transverse lines of attachment in order to posturize the product.

Bedding or seating product having bands of springs

Pocketed bedding or seating product

A spring assembly comprising a plurality of blocks joined together. Each block contains a string of springs. The string of springs comprises a row of springs, an upper fabric retainer and a lower fabric retainer. The row of springs may be a band of springs made from a single length of wire or a plurality of individual springs. The end turns of the springs are located in receptacles created in the fabric retainers.

Pocketed spring assembly

A longitudinally extending spring retainer comprising a band of coil springs and a continuous piece of fabric adapted to hold the band of coil springs. The band of coil springs is made of a single length of wire shaped to form a plurality of coil springs arranged in a row, each of the coil springs having an upper and lower end turn. The upper and lower end turns of the coil springs are held in receptacles created in top and bottom portions of a continuous piece of fabric. The fabric is folded upon itself and secured together with connections in order to hold the end turns in place. Methods of making pocketed spring assemlies, comprising steps of inserting and retaining the above described spring retainers in adjacent, interconnected pockets are also disclosed.

Method of making pocketed spring assembly

A longitudinally extending string of springs comprising a row of springs and a pair of fabric retainers securing the springs together. The row of springs may be a band of coil springs made of a single length of wire shaped to form a plurality of coil springs or multiple individual springs. The upper and lower end turns of the springs are located within pockets or receptacles created in the fabric retainers.

Spring assembly

A bedding product comprising a collapsible spring assembly, a pad covering the spring assembly and a fabric covering encasing the padded spring assembly. The spring assembly comprises a plurality of collapsible spring modules connected to a plurality of spaced parallel helical lacing wires and locking means to hold the assembly in an expanded condition and prevent its collapse. Each of the spring modules comprises four individual wires joined together with helical lacing wire wrapped around a center section of each of the wires. Upon the collapse of the assembly, each of the spring modules collapses. The assembly is held in an expanded condition by a plurality of locking rods, pieces of plastic mesh or other locking means.

Collapsible bedding product

A longitudinally extending spring retainer comprising a band of coil springs and a continuous piece of fabric adapted to hold the band of coil springs. The band of coil springs is made of a single length of wire shaped to form a plurality of coil springs arranged in a row, each of the coil springs having an upper and lower end turn. The upper and lower end turns of the coil springs are held in receptacles created in top and bottom portions of a continuous piece of fabric. The fabric is folded upon itself and secured together with connections in order to hold the end turns in place.

Spring retainer assembly

An edge support spring and handle structure is provided for use in mattresses comprising a continuous length of wire bent to have an elongated top portion and a pair of transverse arms extending downwardly and inwardly from the ends of the top portion, and a bottom portion that mirrors the top portion, with each pair of mirrored transverse arms meeting in a loop to form a pair of loops to which a pair of inwardly extending members of a handle attach. The handle is constructed to have an elongated portion for gripping outside the mattress cover and inwardly extending members that attach to the loops in the edge support spring, such that any strain created by use of the handles will be directed to the edge support spring.

Mattress edge support spring and handle structure

A bedding product comprising a collapsible spring assembly, a pad covering the spring assembly and a fabric covering encasing the padded spring assembly. The spring assembly comprises a plurality of collapsible spring modules connected to a plurality of spaced parallel connecting rods and locking means to hold the assembly in an expanded condition and prevent its collapse. The parallel connecting rods are located between border rods in the top and bottom planes of the assembly. Each of the spring modules comprises four individual wires joined together with helical lacing wire wrapped around a center section of each of the wires. The center sections of the wires define an axis about which each of the wires are capable of rotational movement. Upon the collapse of the assembly, each of the spring modules collapses rotating around the axis of the module. The assembly is held in an expanded condition by a plurality of locking rods, pieces of plastic mesh or other locking means.

An inner spring core comprising a plurality of coil springs arranged in rows and columns having an improved border firmness adjuster around the periphery of the core. The improved border firmness adjuster comprises one of more inflatable pneumatic members positioned inwardly of the outer edges of the outermost coil springs in a space between two adjacent convolutions of each of the outermost coil springs. The pneumatic member or members is capable of variably adjusting the firmness of at least one edge of the mattress.

Inner spring border firmness adjuster

A bedding foundation frame for use in manufacturing a bedding foundation. The foundation frame includes side rails and end rails formed into a rectangular configuration and a plurality of slats extending between the side rails and parallel to the end rails. Selected ones or all of the slats are reinforced by sheet metal strips positioned in juxtaposition to the bottom of the reinforced slats with a longitudinally extending flange in the central portion of the strip extending upwardly into a longitudinally extending slot in the center of the bottom face of the reinforced slat. These sheet metal strips, because of the presence of the flange in the sheet metal strip, function to provide additional resistance to bending of the slats under normal loads while simultaneously preventing breakage of those slats under abnormal loads.
