An active line filter (ALF) with multiple outputs includes a first output providing a first output power form having a first output current, the first output power form being coupled to a first winding on an inductive element; and a second output providing a second output power form having a second output current, the second output power form being coupled to a second winding on the inductive element. An input receives an input power form having an input current and an input voltage. A pulse-width modulator (PWM) provides a PWM output signal controlling timing of switching of a transistor to control application of the input voltage of the input power form to the first winding of the inductive element. An error amplifier receives a signal indicative of the first output voltage and generating an error amplifier output signal.

An active line filter (ALF) with input current regulation includes: an output providing an output power form having an output current; a pulse-width modulator (PWM) for controlling timing of switching of a converter switch transistor to control operation of the active line filter power converter; an error amplifier generating an error amplifier output signal used by the PWM to adjust the PWM output signal; an input for receiving an input power form having an input voltage, the active line filter drawing input current from the input; an input current sense circuit for sensing the input current and generating a signal proportional to the input current to be applied to the inverting input of the error amplifier; a voltage reference signal applied to the noninverting input of the error amplifier; and a voltage regulation circuit for adjusting the voltage reference signal to provide regulation of the output voltage.

A high-power laser system includes a plurality of cascaded diode drivers, a pump source, and a laser element. The diode drivers are configured to generate a continuous driver signal. The pump source is configured to generate radiated energy in response to the continuous driver signal. The laser element is disposed downstream from the pump source and is configured to generate a laser beam in response to stimulation via the radiated energy. The high-power laser system further includes an electronic controller configured to output at least one driver signal that operates the plurality of diode drivers at a fixed frequency. The at least one driver signal operates a first cascade diode driver among the plurality of diode drivers 90 degrees out of phase with respect to a second cascade diode driver among the plurality of diode drivers.

Embodiments of a bidirectional low voltage power supply (LVPS) with a single pulse width modulator and method are generally described herein. In some embodiments, the bidirectional LVPS may include a first converter arranged to provide power from an input power source to a load and a second converter arranged to selectively recycle power from the load at an output of the first converter back to the input power source. Control circuitry may include switching circuitry that may be configured to select either the first power converter or the second power converter for reception of an output of a single PWM.

Embodiments of an integrated motor drive power electronics system are generally described herein. In some embodiments, the integrated motor drive power electronics system includes an active line filter (ALF) configured to control and regulate current drawn from an input power source and to attenuate current ripple fed back to the input power source, an energy storage capacitance coupled to an output of the active line filter, and a bidirectional low voltage power supply (LVPS). In some embodiments, the bidirectional LVPS may provide regulated power to a load and may selectively recycle power back to the input power source and regulate voltage at the load to a predetermined output voltage. In some embodiments, the energy storage capacitance may serve as a local input power source for higher power motor drive electronics and the bidirectional LVPS.

Method and integrated motor drive power electronics system with improved efficiency

A high voltage amplifier and a method of assembling and of operating a high voltage amplifier are described. The device includes a first metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) driven by a first gate drive circuit. The device also includes a second MOSFET driven by a second gate drive circuit and a first optocoupler coupled to the second gate drive circuit. The first MOSFET and the second MOSFET of the high voltage amplifier drive a first output voltage.

High voltage wide bandwidth amplifier

A bidirectional low voltage power supply (LVPS) for providing power to motor drive electronics. The bidirectional LVPS includes two simple, discrete converters. A first converter is used to provide power to an output and the second converter recycles power from the output to the power source. The first converter powers the drive electronics which drives the motor. During an operating process, the first converter shuts off and the second converter turns on to recycle power from the motor to the power source.

Control circuitry uses modified average current mode control to regulate average current through an inductor of a power converter. Control circuitry uses modified average current mode control to regulate average current through an inductor of an active power filter. This average current mode control negates modulation of the average inductor current. In this way, output ripple current of the power converter does not have a significant effect on the input current drawn by the power converter.

Method and control circuitry for providing average current mode control in a power converter and an active power filter

An active-power filter includes control circuitry to combine an integrated output-voltage feedback signal, an input-voltage sense signal and an output-load feedforward signal to generate a control signal. An output-load subsystem draws the output current from the active-power filter and the output-load feedforward signal indicates when current drawn by an output-load subsystem changes. In some embodiments, the output-load subsystem may draw output current from the power converter having an output current ripple at a nominal frequency, which may range, for example, between about 35 and 100 Hz. The control circuitry may include an integrator to integrate the output-voltage feedback signal. The integrator may have a control loop bandwidth significantly less than the nominal ripple frequency to loosely regulate the output voltage while the input current drawn by the active-power filter is tightly regulated.

Method for input current regulation and active-power filter with input voltage feedforward and output load feedforward

Active power filters and methods control and regulate the input current drawn from an electric power bus to a DC level. Load current fluctuations and ripple current reflected back to the electric power bus are significantly reduced or substantially eliminated. A switch mode power converter with a very low bandwidth output voltage regulation control loop uses input voltage feedforward, output load feedforward, and output voltage feedforward to provide a regulated DC input current significantly attenuating input ripple current drawn from the electric power bus.

A current control circuit forces current sharing among paralleled power converters. Each power converter has an associated current control circuit, which includes a current amplifier and a coupling circuit. The current amplifier outputs a feedback signal to a voltage regulation error amplifier when the power converter output current falls below a predetermined threshold level. The error amplifier causes an increase in the power converter output voltage, forcing an increase in output current. Therefore, each power converter in a paralleled arrangement is regulated to provide a minimum level of output current, based on a predetermined threshold value.

A current source that uses a regulated constant current power source to supply current to drive a load, and the load current is controlled by shunt switches. If a plurality of loads utilize less than 50% duty factor, then one current source can drive N multiple dissimilar impedance loads, each at 100%/N duty factor. The current source includes a power converter coupled between the power source and the load(s) for providing pulsed current thereto. A current sensor is provided for sensing current flowing through the loads. A controller is coupled between the sensor and the power converter for regulating the amplitude of the output current supplied to the loads. A shunt switch is coupled across the loads, and a duty factor controller is coupled to the shunt switch for setting the duty factor of the shunt switch. A laser drive circuit, or driving light emitting diode arrays is also disclosed that include a plurality of the current sources. Alternatively, if the duty factor is sufficiently low, one current source may be used to drive a plurality of arrays.
