Methods and systems are provided for a cooling arrangement. In one example, a system comprises a separator arranged in a block coolant jacket. The separator fluidly separates an upper portion of the block coolant jacket from a lower portion of the block coolant jacket.

Methods and systems for cooling arrangement

Methods and systems are provided for an EGR system including an EGR cooler module directly mounted to a cylinder head. In one example, the EGR cooler module includes an EGR inlet port, an EGR outlet port, a coolant inlet port, and a coolant outlet port all arranged parallel with each other and directly mounted to a first side of a cylinder head to interface with passages internal to the cylinder head. In another example, the EGR cool module includes an EGR inlet port and a coolant inlet port parallel to each other and directly mounted to a first side of a cylinder head to interface with passages internal to the cylinder head, while also including an EGR outlet port and a coolant outlet port to interface with passages external to the cylinder head.

Systems and method for an exhaust gas recirculation cooler coupled to a cylinder head

An engine cylinder head is provided. The engine cylinder head includes a portion of a first combustion chamber, an upper coolant jacket portion, and a lower coolant jacket portion directing heat from the first combustion chamber and including a first coolant passage and a second coolant passage, the first coolant passage and the second coolant passage laying along a lateral axis, at least a portion of the first coolant passage separated from the second coolant passage via first and second walls.

Engine assembly

An engine includes a cylinder block with first and second saw cuts intersecting a block face on opposed sides of a block bore bridge. A cylinder head has third and fourth saw cuts intersecting a head face on opposed sides of a head bore bridge. A gasket is placed between the block and the head. The gasket defines a cooling passage adapted to fluidly connect the first, second, third and fourth saw cuts and cool the interbore region of the engine. The cooling passage has an inlet and a pair of outlets.

Bore bridge and cylinder cooling

An engine has a cylinder block defining a cooling circuit with an inlet passage adjacent to a first end of the block and fluidly connected to a continuous open channel positioned between a side wall of the block and a plurality of in-line cylinders. The channel intersects a block deck face and extends alongside each cylinder of the plurality of cylinders. The channel is configured to direct coolant to a cylinder head.

Internal combustion engine cooling system

A cylinder head for an engine defines first and second exhaust runners fluidly coupled to an exhaust passage extending transversely in the head to an exhaust port on an exhaust side. The head defines an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) passage connected to the exhaust passage and extending longitudinally to an EGR port on the exhaust side. The head also defines a cooling jacket passage adjacent to and substantially surrounding the EGR passage to cool EGR gases prior to cooling by an EGR cooler.

Engine with exhaust gas recirculation

A tool and a method of using the tool are provided for forming an engine component. The engine has a block defining a first cylinder and a second cylinder spaced apart by a bore bridge. The bore bridge defines a first cooling passage spaced apart from a deck face and extending transversely, and a second cooling passage positioned between the first passage and the deck face and extending transversely. The first and second passages are formed by a casting skin. In forming the engine component, a die is provided that defines a locator recess and at least one core. An insert is positioned into the recess on the die. The insert has a cast shell surrounding a lost core. The component is die cast with the die and the insert to form a cooling jacket. The insert is adapted to form the cooling passages for the bore bridge.

Bore bridge cooling passage

An internal combustion engine includes a head gasket positioned between a cylinder block and a cylinder head. The cylinder block has first and second cylinders separated by a block bore bridge, and a block cooling jacket with a first passage and a second passage intersecting a block deck face. The cylinder head has first and second chambers separated by a head bore bridge, and a head cooling jacket with a third passage and a fourth passage intersecting a head deck face. The gasket forms a slot positioned adjacent to at least one of the block bore bridge and the head bore bridge to fluidly connect the first and fourth passages to cool the at least one of the block bore bridge and head bore bridge.

An engine includes a cylinder block having first and second passages intersecting a block face on opposed sides of a bore bridge defining a bore bridge cooling passage. A cylinder head has third and fourth passages intersecting a head face. The first and fourth passages are opposed from one another. A gasket is placed between the block and the head. The gasket adapted to fluidly connect the first and fourth passages via the bore bridge cooling passage, and cover the second passage.

An engine cylinder head is provided. The engine cylinder head includes a portion of a first combustion chamber, an upper coolant core and a lower coolant core directing heat from the first combustion chamber and including a first coolant passage and a second coolant passage, the first coolant passage and the second coolant passage laying along a lateral axis, at least a portion of the first coolant passage separated from the second coolant passage via first and second walls.

An engine has a cylinder head with a deck face defining first and second chambers adjacent to one another and separated by a bore bridge. The body defines a first cooling jacket and a second cooling jacket configured to operate at a lower pressure than the first cooling jacket. The first cooling jacket is positioned substantially between the deck face and the second cooling jacket. The first cooling jacket has a series of passages intersecting the deck face and configured to receive coolant from a cylinder block cooling jacket. The second cooling jacket has an inlet passage intersecting the deck face adjacent to the bore bridge and configured to receive coolant from the cylinder block cooling jacket to cool the bore bridge.

An engine is provided with an open deck cylinder block having an open water jacket that surrounds a plurality of cylinders that are joined together in a Siamese design by a cylinder bore bridge. The engine also includes a cylinder head gasket, and a cylinder head. For the purpose of removing excess heat from the cylinder bore bridge, cooling channels are provided that allow coolant to flow from the engine block water jacket, across the cylinder bore bridge, and into a cylinder head coolant passageway. In addition, coolant is prevented from flowing from the water jacket on one side of the cylinders, across the bore bridge, and into the water jacket on the other side of the cylinders.

System for cooling an engine block cylinder bore bridge

A cooling apparatus for an integrated exhaust manifold includes: a first cooling jacket configured to surround a portion of an exhaust manifold; and a second cooling jacket configured to surround another portion of the exhaust manifold. The first cooling jacket includes a first portion sitting atop the second cooling jacket and a second portion adjacent the second cooling jacket and positioned lower than the first portion.
