A fluid level sensing system includes: a sensor electrode to extend into a fluid reservoir, the sensor electrode including (i) a first segment of a first material having a first conductivity, and (ii) a second segment of a second material having a second conductivity; and a controller connected to the sensor electrode, to: detect a response from the sensor electrode to an input applied to the fluid reservoir; and determine, based on the response, which of the first and second segments are in contact with fluid in the fluid reservoir.

Composite electrode fluid level sensing

A conditioner includes a pressure roller assembly, a tension roller assembly, a heating element, a pressure roller drive motor, a tension drive motor, and a controller. The heating element heats the pressure roller assembly. The pressure roller drive motor rotates the pressure roller assembly. The tension drive motor rotates the tension roller assembly. The controller receives a print job complete notification to initiate a conditioner shutdown. In response to the print job complete notification, the controller turns off the tension drive motor. The controller sets the heating element to a predetermined temperature and waits a first predetermined period. In response to the first predetermined period elapsing, the controller turns off the heating element. With the heating element turned off, the controller turns off the pressure roller drive motor.

In some examples, a non-transitory-machine readable medium can store instructions executable by a processing resource to select a special media mode from a plurality of special media modes based on a weight or a type of print media and cause a conditioning device to condition the print media in accordance with the special media mode.

Print media modes

An example a media sensor device may comprise a light source positioned on a first side of a media pathway, a light path to receive a light from the light source and direct the light through a plurality of openings from the first side of the media pathway to a second side of the media pathway, and a light sensor on the second side of the media pathway to detect print media within the light path based on an intensity of light received from the light source, wherein a heated enclosure aligns the light sensor with the light path.

Media sensors

In some examples, a system is disclosed that includes a roller assembly for a printer. The roller assembly includes a pressure roller, a belt coupled, a drive assembly to rotate the pressure roller and to urge the pressure roller into the belt, a heater to apply heat to the belt, and a temperature sensor to detect a temperature of the belt. In addition, the roller assembly includes a controller to increase a pressure applied to the pressure roller from a first to a second pressure in pressure in response to a temperature of the belt being greater than or equal to a first temperature threshold. Also, the controller is to initiate an advance of a print media to contact the belt in response to the temperature of the belt being greater than or equal to a second, higher temperature threshold.

An apparatus calibrates the optical sensor to calibrate the distance measured by the sensor with the expected distance using a calibration surface at the expected distance.

Sensors calibration

A printing apparatus includes a media bin and a sensor, directed toward the media bin, having a first emitter and a receiver. The printing apparatus further includes a second emitter to emit photons toward the optical sensor, and a controller. The controller determines presence of a print media on the media bin based on a count of photons received from a source other than the first emitter, including the second emitter.

Media bin sensors

A printing apparatus uses a time of flight sensor to determine distance between the sensor and a surface facing the sensor, and uses a reflectivity value to determine presence of print media in a media bin.

A media sensing device may include an electromagnetic radiation source, a light guide located on an opposite side of a media feed path respective to the electromagnetic radiation source, and a photodetector to detect electromagnetic radiation from the electromagnetic radiation source and directed by the light guide. The photodetector detects the presence of media upstream from a heated pressure roller (HPR) in response to the media obstructing the detection of electromagnetic radiation from the electromagnetic radiation source.

Media sensing

According to examples, a printing apparatus may include an output bin that is laterally translatable between a retracted position and an extended position. The printing apparatus may also include a sensor to detect a height of a stack of media on the output bin while the output bin is in the retracted position and a controller. The controller may determine whether the detected height of the stack of media on the output bin exceeds a certain level and in response to a determination that the detected height of the stack of media exceeds the certain level, laterally translate the output bin from the retracted position to the extended position.

A drop detector includes a printed circuit board (PCB) including a number of optical channels each formed by a light emitter and a light detector and a number of holes defined in the PCB over which the optical channels pass over and through which a number of ejected drops from a number of printheads pass through wherein each of the number of holes defined in PCB are sized to contour the shape of the number of the printheads.

Drop detector

A method of detecting droplets of printing fluid output from a nozzle array includes, in an example, grouping a number of nozzles into a number of individual groups of nozzles and sequentially detecting, with a printing fluid detector, printing fluid ejected from each group of nozzles using a linear position encoder to synchronize the position of the printing fluid detector wherein the printing fluid detector stops moving while detecting each group of nozzles.
