A radio antenna interface for a portable radio is provided comprising a radio housing having a control top with a circular walled control top opening for receiving an antenna, the circular walled control top opening having an interior surface with a protruding bumper feature formed thereon. An antenna having has a base portion for insertion into the circular walled control top opening, the base portion has a ring feature forming a full circumference bump around the base portion. Once the antenna is assembled with the portable radio, the ring feature is located beneath and abuts with the protruding bumper to form the radio antenna interface. The radio antenna interface provides increased friction to minimize loosening of the antenna under extreme usage conditions.

An antenna for a portable communication device is provided. The antenna comprises an antenna body having an upper section and a lower section with a connection point therebetween. The connection point being configured to: couple the upper and lower sections during normal antenna operation; decouple the upper and lower sections in response to an impact event; and recouple the upper and lower sections after the impact event.

A battery pack is provided with an improved interface through the use of an endcap which forms a top surface of a battery pack housing. The endcap includes a walled aperture for a connector. The connector along with electronic circuitry is disposed on a printed circuit board located beneath the endcap. A dam of UV glue surrounds a perimeter of the connector preventing the potting compound from intruding into contacts. An endcap perimeter rim of UV glue seals the endcap to the housing. The endcap further includes an injection port and flow directors for guiding a potting compound into the endcap to form a water tight seal.

An antenna assembly for a portable radio includes a removable speaker cover having a plurality of speaker ports and an antenna mounting aperture extending through the removable speaker cover. The antenna assembly also includes a sheet metal antenna element coupled to the removable speaker cover along at least one of a top or side surface of the removable speaker cover, the sheet metal antenna element having a jogged portion that extends into the antenna mounting aperture. The antenna assembly also includes a contact plate disposed below the removable speaker cover and aligned with the antenna mounting aperture. The contact plate is coupled to the jogged portion to provide an electrical connection between the contact plate and the jogged portion.

A control switch () is provided to facilitate a primary user interface for a control top surface () of a non-orthogonal control top () of a portable communication device (). The control switch () comprises a thumb button actuator (), a rotary lever () having a lever arm () extending therefrom, a transfer arm () coupled between the thumb button actuator and the lever arm of the rotary lever, and an electrical rotary switch () with a switch shaft () providing a primary axis of orthogonal rotation. Actuation of the thumb button actuator () results in linear, non-orthogonal motion of the transfer arm () being translated into rotary motion of the switch shaft () about the primary axis of orthogonal rotation ().

Radio control for a portable communication device

A connector assembly for connecting a battery to different electrical components within an electrical device includes a housing, and a plurality of sheet metal contacts coupled to and extending through the housing. The plurality of sheet metal contacts define a plurality of battery contact regions and a plurality of internal contact regions spaced form the plurality of battery contact regions. The plurality of internal contact regions physically contact the plurality of different electrical components. A first one of the plurality of internal contact regions is offset from a second one of the plurality of internal contact regions in a different spatial plane than a spatial plane of the second one of the plurality of internal contact regions.

A radio includes an inner radio core having a main frame assembly and at least one water-sealed sub-assembly sealed to the main frame assembly. The inner radio core is an independently testable and functional radio. The radio further includes at least one customizable housing component configured to be releasably coupled to the inner radio core via at least one hook, tab, or fastener.

An inductive landing apparatus for an unmanned aerial vehicle and methods of operation. One method includes locating, with a flight controller, an overhead power line. The method includes controlling a flight system communicatively coupled to the flight controller to bring the unmanned aerial vehicle in proximity to the overhead power line. The method includes controlling the flight system to position the unmanned aerial vehicle such that a first inductive clamp and a second inductive clamp of the unmanned aerial vehicle are aligned with the overhead power line. The method includes causing the first and second inductive clamps to open. The method includes causing the first and second inductive clamps to close around the overhead power line. The method includes inductively coupling the first and second inductive clamps to the overhead power line.

A multi-position rotary control provides authentication for a battery operated portable communication device. The rotary control provides a rotary switch pin code which is combined with voice authentication as part of an authentication process. Upon completion of authentication, the rotary control reverts back to a default radio control.

The first and second side plates () have a plurality of non-symmetrical, three-dimensional (3-D), dovetail sections () for aligning and capturing the screw mount receptacles () of the front plate (). The front plate () and first and second side plates () are formed of an injection molded thermoplastic material. The three pieces () are coupled together. The three-piece injection housing formed of injunction molded materials allows the housing () to be customized to specific customer requests not currently available with past overmolded materials.

Housing assembly

An improved venting and sealing assembly for a portable communication device is provided. The venting and sealing assembly is formed of a housing enclosure having a walled aperture with a bottom surface and an offset through-hole passing therethrough. A flexible substrate having a vent hole is coupled to the housing enclosure across the walled aperture such that the vent hole is offset from the offset through-hole. A breathable membrane is coupled across the vent hole of the flexible substrate. A rigid plate having an opening is coupled to the breathable membrane, the opening of the rigid plate being aligned with the vent hole of the flexible substrate. A closed-loop sealing rib is formed around the vent hole of the flexible substrate and/or upon the bottom surface of the walled aperture of the housing enclosure. The assembly provides a vent path and a self-sealing enclosure.

Apparatus and method for venting and sealing a portable communication device

An electronic device including a housing having a container and a cover. The cover has an opening. The electronic device also includes a circuit board positioned within the container. The circuit board includes an electrical component that is aligned with the opening. The electronic device further includes a heat pipe mounted to the cover. A portion of the heat pipe extends into the opening of the cover to thermally communicate with the electrical component.
