A flow cell includes a flow cell body. The flow cell body includes a frame and a fluid chamber defined in the flow cell body. The fluid chamber includes a reaction region allowing a fluid flow. A liquid inlet, a liquid outlet, and two exhaust holes connected to the fluid chamber are in the frame. Fluid into the liquid inlet flows through the reaction region in the fluid chamber and flows out through the liquid outlet. The exhaust holes discharge gas generated in the fluid chamber during the fluid flow. A flow cell with integral sealing rings and a biochemical substance reaction device are also disclosed.

The invention provides a probe and a method of making the probe that is removably insertable into a gas phase ion spectrometer, the probe comprising a substrate having a surface and a hydrogel material on the surface, the hydrogel material comprising binding functionalities for binding with an analyte detectable by the gas phase ion spectrometer. The invention also provides a probe and a method of making the probe that is removably insertable into a gas phase ion spectrometer, the probe comprising a substrate having a surface and a plurality of particles that are uniform in diameter on the surface, the particles comprising binding functionalities for binding with an analyte detectable by the gas phase ion spectrometer. Further, the invention provides a system comprising the probe of the present invention and a gas phase ion spectrometer comprising an energy source that directs light to the probe surface to desorb an analyte and a detector in communication with the probe surface that detects the desorbed analyte. The invention also provides a method for desorbing an analyte from a probe surface, the method comprising exposing the binding functionalities to a sample containing an analyte under conditions to allow binding between the analyte and the binding functionalities, and desorbing the analyte from the probe by gas phase ion spectrometry.

Probes for a gas phase ion spectrometer

Methods and compounds are provided for detecting target molecules in a sample using specific binding assays. In particular, methods are provided for detecting a nucleic acid target in a sample. In one embodiment, the method comprises hybridizing a nucleic acid target, comprising a target nucleic acid sequence, to a nucleic acid probe, comprising a probe nucleic acid sequence, wherein the target comprises a binding ligand. The hydridized target is contacted with a receptor comprising multiple sites capable of binding the binding ligand to complex the receptor to the binding ligand, and the receptor is contacted with an amplification reagent, comprising a plurality of the binding ligands, to complex the amplification reagent to the receptor. The presence of the complexed amplification reagent then is detected, for example, by detecting the presence of a detectable label, such as a fluorescent label, for example, on the receptor or the amplification reagent. Optionally, the amplification reagent, comprising a plurality of the binding ligands, is contacted with labeled receptor molecules thereby to complex a plurality of labeled receptor molecules to the amplification reagent, and the labeled receptor molecules complexed to the amplification reagent are detected. This permits the detectable signal to be enhanced and amplified. In one embodiment, the binding ligand is biotin, the receptor is streptavidin, and the amplification reagent is an antibody or a DNA matrix. In another embodiment, an array of different nucleic acid probes immobilized on a surface, each having a defined sequence and location on the surface, may be used in the assays, thus permitting screening and detection of binding of a large number of nucleic acids.

Methods and compositions for amplifying detectable signals in specific binding assays

Radiation-activated catalysts (RACs), autocatalytic reactions, and protective groups are employed to achieve a highly sensitive, high resolution, radiation directed combinatorial synthesis of pattern arrays of diverse polymers. When irradiated, RACs produce catalysts that can react with enhancers, such as those involved in autocatalytic reactions. The autocatalytic reactions produce at least one product that removes protecting groups from synthesis intermediates. This invention has a wide variety of applications and is particularly useful for the solid phase combinatorial synthesis of polymers.

This invention provides a mass spectrometry probe including a substrate having a surface and a film that coats the surface. The film includes openings that define features for the presentation of an analyte. The film also has a lower surface tension that the surface tension of the substrate surface, and has a water contact angle between 120&deg; and 180&deg;.
