A roof unit having an outer skin, an inward facing ceiling having a ceiling frame, and a basic structure. The ceiling and the outer skin along with the basic structure have joining configurations that mate together at corresponding locations. The ceiling has at least one fitting from a group of fittings including fittings for a ceiling cover, interior cladding, cushioning against impact, sun shields, an interior rear view mirror, interior lighting, wiring, operating and display elements, sliding, raising, folding, lamellar and glass roofs, and their frame parts and drive elements, and roof hand grips.

Roof unit and basic structure of road-bound vehicle

A roof unit having an outer skin, an inward facing ceiling, whereby the outer skin and the ceiling are combined to form a unit ready for installation, a base structure having longitudinal frames. The ceiling and the outer skin along with the basic structure have joining configurations that mate the ceiling and the outer skin to the base structure at mutual places for joining. The ceiling has a sandwich structure including a middle layer of foam, at least one side of the middle layer being provided with one of a fiber mat and a glass fiber fleece and at least one of a plastic film, a cover film, a decorative overlay and a functional overlay.

Roof unit and basic structure of a road-bound vehicle

A process for manufacturing a road-bound, horizontally fitted vehicle body with a roof unit having an outer skin and an inward facing ceiling, or an outer skin and an inward facing ceiling with a ceiling frame, whereby the roof unit is a unit ready for installation, and a basic structure having longitudinal frames and side wall columns, the ceiling and the outer skin along with the basic structure having joining configurations that mate with each other at mutual places for joining. The ceiling has at least one fitting from a group of fittings consisting of fittings for a ceiling cover, interior cladding, cushioning against impact, sun shields, an interior rear view mirror, interior lighting, wiring, operating and display elements, sliding, raising, folding, lamellar and glass roofs, and their frame parts and the drive elements, and roof hand grips. The process includes the steps of either inserting the roof unit with the fittings from the front or rear, lowering the roof unit with the fittings or raising the roof unit with the fittings so that mutual configurations for connecting purposes of the roof unit and the basic structure are brought together and joined permanently with each other. The side wall columns of the basic structure have a configuration for connecting purposes and a configuration for connecting to the side wall columns is provided on the ceiling or ceiling frame.

A process for manufacturing a road-bound, horizontally fitted vehicle body with a roof unit having an outer skin and an inward facing ceiling with a ceiling frame, and a basic structure having longitudinal frames and front and rear cross members. The ceiling and the outer skin along with the basic structure have corresponding joining configurations that mate the ceiling and outer skin to the basic structure. The process includes mating the ceiling frame to the longitudinal frames, introducing the ceiling through an opening in the basic structure for a rear or a front window, moving the ceiling upwardly into contact with the corresponding joining configurations of the basic structure for connection on at least one of the longitudinal frames and the front and rear cross members, fixing the ceiling in place, lowering the outer skin onto the corresponding joining configurations of the basic structure for connection to the longitudinal frames and onto the front and rear cross members, and permanently fixing the outer skin to the longitudinal frames and the front and rear cross members.

The process includes the steps of introducing the roof unit containing the outer skin with joining configurations, the ceiling or the ceiling and the ceiling frame, in each case with fittings already mounted in place, through an opening between the longitudinal frames, bringing the roof unit into contact with corresponding, matching configuration points of the longitudinal frames by an upward movement and permanently jointing the roof unit there.

The process includes the steps of introducing the ceiling frame through an opening in the basic structure for a rear or front window, moving the ceiling frame upwardly into contact with matching configuration points for connection at least one of laterally on the longitudinal frames and on front and rear cross members, fixing the ceiling frame in place, and lowering the ceiling and the ceiling frame followed by the outer skin onto the corresponding matching configuration points for connection to the longitudinal frames laterally and onto the front and rear cross members and securing there permanently.

A vehicle with a compartment, a ventilation channel on the ceiling or in a side wall of the compartment running in the longitudinal or transverse direction of the vehicle and a lighting facility with lighting elements is such that the ventilation channel features a reflector box with a channel base, featuring openings that are at least in part transparent to light or light-admitting openings, fitted facing the interior of the passenger compartment, and the lighting elements of the lighting facility are situated inside the ventilation channel. As a result of lighting facility being integrated in the ventilation channel, the amount of space required is less and the ventilation channel with integral lighting can be in the form of a pre-assembled unit.
