Methods are provided for correcting an analyte concentration measurement that may be influenced by hematocrit (HCT), especially a glucose concentration measurement. The methods include determining by means of a reference instrument a HCT reference value of a reference blood sample taken from a specific user, applying a fresh blood sample of the user on a disposable analytical test element, measuring the glucose value of the fresh blood sample by single use of the test element in a glucose meter, determining a HCT correction value using at least the HCT reference value, and adjusting the measured glucose value using the HCT correction value to receive an adjusted glucose value. Also provided are devices and system incorporating or for performing the methods.

Methods of hematocrit correction as well as glucose meters and systems adapted therefor

Devices and methods are provided for determining concentration of at least one analyte in a body fluid sample such as blood, especially a blood glucose concentration. In the methods, a test element is provided that has at least one reagent element configured so as to carry out at least one optically detectable detection reaction in the presence of the analyte. The body fluid sample is applied to the test element and a time course of at least one optical measurement variable of the reagent element is detected. At least one first time interval of the time course of the optical measurement variable is used to determine at least one disturbance variable value in the body fluid sample, in particular a concentration of a disturbance variable such as hematocrit. At least one second time interval of the time course is used to determine analyte concentration. The at least one disturbance variable value can be used to correct/compensate the analyte concentration.

The invention relates to an analysis system for analyzing a sample on a test element. The system has an analysis unit for generating a signal as a function of an analyte contained in a sample, and a detection unit for detecting the signal. The analysis system further includes a test element holder into which the test element can be reversibly introduced and in which it can be positioned relative to the analysis unit and the detection unit. The test element contains at least one guide element, which is suitable for laterally guiding the test element, so that the test element in the test element holder is held and guided only on an outer region of the test element, and an inner region of the test element introduced into the test element holder remains free. The test element contains a sample application site in the inner region.

The invention relates to a handheld analyzer for testing a sample, in particular of a biological fluid, for a medically significant component. It comprises a test unit, which detects the correct positioning of an analytical consumable means in a conveyance pathway. According to this invention, the test unit has both an electric switch component which mechanically senses the positioning of the analytical consumable means and an optical sensor unit which optically senses the positioning of the analytical consumable means on the conveyance pathway. The handheld analyzer is controlled as a function of a comparison of the signals of the electric switch component and the optical sensor unit. It is possible in this way to reduce malfunctions or operating errors associated therewith.

The present invention provides an integrated measuring device that includes a blood collection system for collecting blood for diagnostic purposes. The blood collection system comprises an electric motor which provides energy for propelling a lancet. The blood collection system comprises a mechanical energy store in which the electric energy that is converted by the motor is stored in the form of mechanical energy. The use of a mechanical energy store allows the use of known mechanical drive elements. The blood collection system can also be electrically activated and is thus easy to use for the operator. The motor can also be coupled to another system component, such as a test strip or lancet drum, to operate it.

The invention relates to a hand-held analytical device for analyzing a sample, in particular a biological fluid, for a medically significant component, comprising a housing comprising a loading opening for receiving a replaceable cartridge having multiple chambers that may contain analytical consumables, in particular test strips, and each chamber comprising an opening on at least one face of the cartridge and each opening may be sealed by a sealing foil, a removal facility for removing one of the analytical consumables from the cartridge. The removal facility can be used to remove one of the consumables from one of the chambers of the cartridge, in the process of which the opening sealed by the sealing foil is opened. A drive allows the cartridge to be moved in order to position one chamber in a removal position in which a consumable can be removed from the chamber by the removal facility. The invention provides for the hand-held analytical device to comprise a testing facility that can generate a signal containing information regarding whether the opening of one of the chambers is sealed by sealing foil.

The invention relates to embodiments of a method and a system for monitoring the correct positioning of a test element in a test element receptacle of an analysis unit, the test element carrying a sample to be analyzed by the analysis unit. Using a delimiting element, responsive signals resulting from irradiating an analysis region on the test element are effectively prevented from impinging upon a signal detector when the analysis region is in an incorrect position relative to the analysis unit. The delimiting element is provided with a light-opaque region and a light-transmissive region, and the light-opaque region is positioned such that responsive signals impinge upon it rather than the light-transmissive region when the analysis region is in an incorrect position. The embodiments of the invention further relate to methods and systems configured to further analyze the sample, to determine whether the sample has been underdosed, and additional position monitoring steps comprising irradiating different partial regions of the analysis region and comparing the detection signals responsive to each to a predetermined limit value.
