A method calculates temperatures in an electric drive unit. A first temperature detection region has a first temperature and a second temperature detection region has a second temperature. The first temperature is influenced by a first coupling value which is non-linearly dependent on the first temperature and the temperature at the first and second temperature detection regions. The calculations are divided among separate calculation units such that the temperatures can be estimated in real time.

Electric drive unit and method for temperature calculation in an electrical drive unit

A method for continuous condition monitoring of an electric motor having a rotor and a stator and at least two motor phases, wherein, a first energy loss is associated with the first motor phase and a second energy loss is associated with the second motor phase. The temperature during operation of the electric motor is determined by firstly carrying out a first temperature calculation in order to estimate a temperature of the first motor phase, the first temperature calculation incorporating an energy loss estimation, and a temperature estimation in which a temperature of the first motor phase depends on the estimated energy loss. A second temperature calculation in order to estimate a temperature of the second motor phase utilizes the first temperature value and an energy loss difference between the first and the second energy loss.

Method for continuous condition monitoring of an electric motor

A thermal management system for an electric drive system, preferably for a vehicle, includes an electric drive including an electric motor and power electronics. The electric motor and the power electronics are integrated in a cooling circuit and are cooled by a coolant circulating in the cooling circuit. The coolant is circulated by a coolant pump. In the case of a variable thermal management system, the electric motor and the power electronics are in spatial contact with respective cooling units. The cooling units of the electric motor and of the power electronics are arranged parallel to each other and an electrically controlled coolant distributor is positioned between the coolant pump and the cooling units which coolant distributor has two outlets. One outlet leads to the cooling unit of the electric motor and one outlet leads to the cooling unit of the power electronics and the outlets of the cooling units are merged into a channel and led back to the coolant pump.
