A method of providing a conduit () adapted for conducting a medium, with a functional element. The functional element is adapted for at least one of: coupling, connecting, sealing, fixing, adjusting, aligning, receiving, protecting, and positioning the conduit. A part, comprising a plastic material, is plastified and molded within a forming tool for shaping the form of the functional element and for attaching the functional element to the conduit.

A coupling for bringing a first conduit in communication with a second conduit. Each of the conduits comprises an end to be coupled and each of the conduits is adapted for conducting a medium. The coupling has a housing and at least one aperture in said housing. The housing is adapted for introducing said first and second conduits into the housing. Furthermore, the coupling comprises a recess in the housing. The recess is adapted for partly receiving the ends of the first and second conduits. The coupling has a seal adapted for sealing the first and second conduits within the recess.

A method of manufacturing a flow cell with a cell housing having a bore for the passage of sample, and with an inner layer of a totally reflecting polymer material for guiding radiation through the bore for the analysis of the sample, comprises the steps of: a) providing a tube of the polymer material in the bore of the cell housing, and b) applying a force on the walls of the tube from the interior of the tube for pressing the walls of the tube against the cell housing. The force may be applied by any suitable means, for example by drawing a mandrel through the interior of the tube, or by using pressurized gas or liquid. The resulting flow cell has a smooth inner surface with improved optical properties.
