A method for detecting characteristic cells in a sample includes performing a first lysis of a sample to yield a first lysate wherein nuclei of the cells of the sample remain intact. Freely available RNA in the first lysate is extracted and classified to ascertain the amounts of various types of RNA in the first lysate. A second lysis operation on the previously lysed sample is performed to yield a second lysate wherein the cell nuclei of the cells in the sample are destroyed. DNA freely available in the second lysate is extracted and a total cell count of cells in the provided sample is calculated on the basis of the amount of extracted DNA. The number of cells having individual cell markers in the provided sample is calculated using the ascertained amounts of various types of RNA and the calculated total cell count.

Method for counting cell types or cell markers in a sample, in particular in a blood sample

A fluidic network for carrying out, in parallel, a plurality of analyses of biological samples is disclosed. The network has a flow cell array with a plurality of reaction chambers. The reaction chambers each have a first channel connection and a second channel connection. The first channel connections are connected to a first supply channel and the second channel connections are connected to a second supply channel. The first supply channel and the second channel connection are interconnected by a circulation line. At least one component is connected to the circulation line so that component test reagents can be introduced into the reaction chambers of the flow cell array.

A microfluidic sequencing device for multiplying and separating molecular chains, and which is designed to receive biochemical material, includes at least one supply opening for supplying biochemical material into the sequencing device. The filter element is formed between the first cavity and the second cavity in order to hold back a plurality of organic cells of the biological sample on the plurality of perforations when the biological sample moves between the first cavity and the second cavity through the filter element. The electrically conductive structure is arranged on the filter element and is configured to cause lysis of the organic cells and/or to duplicate and/or detect defined segments of exposed DNA.

An analysis unit for performing a polymerase chain reaction includes a cover element, a bottom element, at least one fluid channel, at least one pressure channel, and a film. The bottom element has at least one bottom hollow that defines a fluid-accommodating surface and an arrangement of microcavities, and that faces toward the cover element. The fluid channel is formed between the cover element and the bottom element in order to conduct a fluid onto the fluid-accommodating surface. The pressure channel is formed in the cover element in order to conduct a pressure into a region of the fluid-accommodating surface. The film is positioned between the cover element and the bottom element in a region of the bottom hollow, and is configured to deform in response to the pressure conducted through the pressure channel such that the fluid is moved through the fluid-accommodating surface into the arrangement of microcavities.

A microfluidic device is configured to analyze a sample of biological material. The microfluidic device includes a fluid guide structure constructed in order to divide a sample introduced into the microfluidic device into a plurality of subquantities. The microfluidic device further includes a plurality of reaction chambers each of which is fluidically connected to the fluid guide structure. Each of the reaction chambers has a filter configured to filter out target cells from the sample, and each of the reaction chambers is constructed to receive a sample subquantity. In each of the reaction chambers, a result of a reaction between a target-cell-specific active substance that is different for each of the reaction chambers and the target cells of the sample subquantity that is taken up is acquirable.

Microfluidic device and method for analyzing a sample of biological material

Systems and methods are disclosed for manufacturing a CMOS-MEMS device. A partial protective layer is deposited on a top surface of a layered to cover a logic region. A first partial etch is performed from the bottom side of the layered structure to form a first gap below a MEMS membrane within a MEMS region of the layered structure. A second partial etch is performed from the top side of the layered structure to remove a portion of a sacrificial layer between the MEMS membrane and a MEMS backplate within the MEMS region. The second partial etch releases the MEMS membrane so that it can move in response to pressures. The deposited partial protective layer prevents the second partial etch from etching a portion of the sacrificial layer positioned within the logic region of the layered structure and also prevents the second partial etch from damaging the CMOS logic component.

Monolithic CMOS-MEMS microphones and method of manufacturing

Systems and methods are disclosed for manufacturing a CMOS-MEMS device (). A partial protective layer () is deposited on a top surface of a layered structure to cover a circuit region.
