A classifying device for classifying cells in real-time, comprising: as alignment unit configured to align a cell to be classified along the cell's major axis; and a classifying unit configured to classify the aligned cell using a multilayer perceptron, MLP; wherein the MLP classifies the aligned cell based on one or more images of the aligned cell. By executing the classifying device, an improved and efficient cell classification in real-time based on cell images can be provided, while labelling of the cells to be classified can be avoided.

Device for image-based cell classification, method therefor and use thereof

The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for sorting cells. The apparatus for determining the mechanical properties of cells comprises: &#x2014;a microfluidic channel having an inlet and an outlet, the channel being configured to let a fluid containing cells pass therethrough, &#x2014;a means for introducing a fluid containing cells into the channel so as to establish a flow of the fluid within the channel, &#x2014;a cell shape measurement device arranged to obtain information of a deformed shape of a cell deformed due to the flow pattern created by the interaction of the fluid flow with the channel, and &#x2014;an analysis means arranged to use data from the cell shape measurement device to obtain mechanical properties of the cells.

Apparatus and method for determining the mechanical properties of cells

In a method for diagnosing and/or prognosis of cancers, diagnosing origin of tumor cells, optimizing cancer therapy, and screening active substances for oncology, the mechanical properties of tumor cells and reference cells are analyzed under mechanical load that causes linear or non-linear deformation of the loaded cell. The engineering strain of the cells caused by directed mechanical stress being introduced is used to determine metastasis risk and the presence of uncontrollably proliferating and/or invasive cells, or the origin of the tumor. The metastasis risk is determined based on the proportion of cells in the sample exhibiting engineering strain in a direction opposite to the stressing direction. The risk of the presence of uncontrollably proliferating cells for non-linear deformation of the cell is determined in the sample based on the mean value of the engineering strain in the direction of cell stressing.

Method for diagnosis and/or prognosis of cancers by analysis of the mechanical properties of tumor cells

The invention relates to a device for contactless manipulation and alignment of sample particles in a measurement volume using a nonhomogeneous electric alternating field, comprising a radiation source for emitting electromagnetic radiation and optical means for guiding the electromagnetic radiation into the measurement volume. The device is characterized in that the optical means include a beam shaping device for generating an intensity profile that is asymmetrical about the beam axis, wherein sample particles in the measurement volume can be trapped in a nonhomogeneous field distribution of the electric field generated by the asymmetrical intensity profile, that for the purpose of entraining sample particles trapped in the nonhomogeneous field distribution there is provided a rotating device to effect rotation of the asymmetrical intensity profile about the beam axis relatively to the measurement volume, and that the electromagnetic radiation beam in the measurement volume is unfocused, more particularly, divergent. The invention further relates to a method for contactless manipulation and alignment of sample particles in a measurement volume using a nonhomogeneous electric field.
