In an internal combustion engine comprising an engine block consisting of a crankcase, at least one cylinder sleeve extending from the crankcase and a coolant jacket disposed around the cylinder sleeve or sleeves and a cylinder head mounted on the engine block, the coolant jacket is a separate component consisting of a material lighter than the normally used cast iron jacket and is firmly engaged between the crankcase and the cylinder head which is mounted onto the cylinder sleeve or sleeves.

Internal combustion engine

In a liquid-cooled generator including a generator structure disposed in a housing in spaced relationship therefrom so as to form a narrow space between the generator structure and the housing wherein the housing has inlet and exit opening for conducting a coolant through the annular space, a restriction is disposed in the annular space between the inlet and the exit openings and the inlet opening extends essentially tangentially to the inner wall of the generator housing so as to establish in the annular space an essentially circumferential coolant flow.

Liquid cooled generator

A method for manufacturing a cast cylinder head for an internal combustion engine in a casting mold includes placing a sand core in a casting mold in a cavity between an upper part and a lower part of the mold to form a water chamber. Before casting, a displacement body is placed in the sand core, and the displacement body remains in the water chamber after casting.

Cast cylinder head and method for manufacturing same

In a liquid-cooled cylinder block and crankcase in an open-deck construction, a displacement body is placed in the coolant space. The shape of the displacement body approaches the shape of the coolant space. The interior wall of the displacement body, together with the exterior surface of the cylinder block containing the cylinders, bound a narrow gap which is connected with the coolant inlet connection. As the result, the coolant is forced to flow along the cylinder block so that an intensive cooling is achieved with a reduced coolant quantity.

Liquid-cooled cylinder block and crankcase

In a crankcase for a piston machine having a bearing support structure for a crankshaft main bearing with a bearing base part integrally formed with the bearing support structure and a bearing cover mounted onto the bearing base part by bearing bolts extending into bolt mounting columns, the bearing support structure includes a transverse wall which extends between the crankcase walls, the bearing support base and the bearing base part and includes a rib structure of an increased wall thickness formed between the bearing base part and the bearing support base and having a recess in the area between the end of a mounting bolt bore in the bolt mounting column and the bearing support base providing for a force flux path which istributes the force flux evenly over the length of the threaded mounting bolt bore area.

Crankcase for a piston machine

In a liquid cooled multi-cylinder internal combustion engine comprising an engine block having a cooling water space, wherein a cylinder head is mounted on the engine block by cylinder head bolts with a cylinder head gasket disposed therebetween, and the cylinder head includes a water space which is in communication with the engine block water space by passages extending through the gasket and the cylinder head bottom wall, the cylinder head bolts extend through the passages into the engine block in spaced relationship from the walls defining the passages such that cooling water flowing from the engine block cooling water space through the passages to the cylinder head cooling water space, flows along the cylinder head bolts maintaining them at cooling water temperature, and the cylinder head includes in its cooling water space longitudinal ribs extending between the cylinder head bottom and top walls for reinforcing the cylinder head.
