A curable composition and method for producing a tear resistant, yet soft and deformable in-the-ear product yielding the user greater comfort and durability. The curable composition incorporated into a hearing aid apparatus provides a deformable, yet tear resistant housing, which may be mated to a soft tip component. The hearing aid housing provides better comfort, durability and acoustic performance for a variety of ear canal shapes. The curable composition that provides these properties includes at least one urethane acrylate oligomer, at least one reactive diluent and a cure system. The composition when cured desirably produces a tear strength of at least about 75 pli and a hardness of about Shore A 60 to about 75.

The present invention is directed to low intensity UV curable adhesives formulated using a blend of acrylate oligomers and monomers which are capable of bonding glass, provide improved low-yellowing properties and fast cure speed over current glass bonding adhesives, while maintaining good bond strength lo and durability comparable to, or better than, state-of-the-art glass bonding adhesives.

In a method for manufacturing ophthalmic, telescopic, microscopic, etc. lenses, the use of a radiation (e.g., UV or visible light) curable adhesive formulation containing a predominant amount of an acrylic capped organic prepolymer; a lesser amount of an ethylenically unsaturated diluent monomer; a minor amount of a non-reactive releasing agent and a suitable photoinitiator for blocking (bonding) and deblocking (debonding) a lens blank to a support member.

Anaerobic compositions containing strong acid impurities and/or strong acid precursors are neutralized and stabilized against the degrading effects of pH decrease during storage by adding about 0.1 to about 10 percent by weight of the total composition of an epoxy.

Stabilized acid-containing anaerobic compositions

A self-emulsifying anaerobic-curing composition is disclosed. The composition is rendered self-emulsifying by incorporating certain anionic and/or nonionic surfactants in a concentration range of about 0.25 to about 10.0 percent. The preferred anionics comprise the petroleum sulfonates and the sodium alkyl or alkylaryl sulfonates. The preferred nonionics comprise the ethoxylated alkyl alcohols, the ethoxylated alkyl phenols, and the polyoxyethylene/polyoxypropylene glycols. Any anaerobic monomer or monomer mixture in which the surfactant is soluble and compatible with the cure system may be used. These self-emulsifiable compositions have the advantage of being readily removed from surfaces by washing with water, which makes them especially useful in impregnation processes where uncured resin must be removed from areas which are difficult to wash, such as small, blind holes.
