A method of replacing an ACL with a graft. The method provides for the drilling bone tunnels in a femur and a tibia. A replacement graft is provided having first and second ends. A biodegradable composite screw is provided. The screw is made from a biodegradable polymer and a bioceramic or a bioglass. At least one end of the graft is secured in a bone tunnel using the biodegradable composite screw.

A method for fixing a portion of a piece of tissue in a bone tunnel comprising the steps of placing the portion of a piece of tissue in the bone tunnel, advancing spaced-apart first and second metal wires though the bone, transversely of the bone tunnel, so as to intersect the bone tunnel and extend into the portion of a piece of tissue, removing one of the wires and replacing the one removed wire with a first rod, and removing the other of the wires and replacing the other removed wire with a second rod, whereby to retain the portion of a piece of tissue in the bone tunnel with the rods.

Method for fixing a graft in a bone tunnel

An implement for manipulating and cutting a knotted suture includes a body member having a handle at one end, and a knot-engageable section at the opposite end for engaging the knotted suture to be cut; and a cutting member carried by the body member and having an end portion formed with a cutting edge for cutting the knotted suture at a predetermined distance from the knot. The cutting member is movable along its longitudinal axis from a normal position to an actuated position for cutting the knotted suture. The knot-engageable section of the body member is formed with an axial bore for receiving the end portion of the cutting member when the cutting member is moved to its actuated position, and with an angled bore intersecting the axial bore at an angle to the longitudinal axis for receiving the knotted suture. The knot is located at one side of the angled bore and the suture to be cut extends through the angled bore to the opposite side, such as to permit hand-tensioning the knot and then cutting the suture by moving the cutting member to its actuated position.

Method and apparatus for fixing a graft in a bone tunnel

A method for fixing a bone block in a bone tunnel comprising the steps of placing the bone block in the bone tunnel, advancing spaced-apart first and second metal wires through the bone, transversely of the bone tunnel, so as to intersect the bone block and extend through the bone block, removing one of the wires and replacing the one removed wire with a first absorbable rod, and removing the other of the wires and replacing the other removed wire with a second absorbable rod, whereby to retain the bone block in the bone tunnel with the absorbable rods.
