An article includes a substrate having a thermal control coating formed of 1 part by weight of a silicone polymeric matrix having from about 3 to about 4 parts by weight aluminum-doped zinc oxide pigment particles distributed therein. The article may be either relatively thick or flexibly thin, and the coating may be greater than 0.0015 inches thick so as to have a low solar absorptance. The coating has an absorptance of about 0.2-0.3 and an emittance of about 0.9, and is sufficiently electrically conductive to dissipate electrostatic charges.

Thermal control coating

An article includes a substrate having a thermal control coating formed of 1 part by weight of a silicone polymeric matrix having from about 8 to about 4 parts by weight aluminum-doped zinc oxide pigment particles distributed therein. The article may be either relatively thick or flexibly thin, and the coating may be greater than 0.0015 inches thick so as to have a low solar absorptance. The coating has an absorptance of about 0.2-0.3 and an emittance of about 0.9, and is sufficiently electrically conductive to dissipate electrostatic charges.

Predetermined desired areas of solvent-insoluble parylene coatings are removed from substrates made of materials such as plastics, metals, composites, or ceramics by contacting the areas to be removed with a substance that causes the parylene coating to loosen from the substrate sufficiently to permit physical removal, as by peeling or scraping. The substance used is tetrahydrofuran alone, or in combination with a carrier that does not react with the tetrahydrofuran, the parylene, or the substrate, and that makes the mixture sufficiently viscous for application to desired coating areas without affecting other areas contiguous thereto.
