In some examples, a system detects an error in an printing device, and selects a combination of a medium advance error correction process to address a medium advance error and a faulty nozzle correction process to address a faulty nozzle, where the selecting of the combination is from a plurality of different combinations of the medium advance error correction process and the faulty nozzle correction process, and the selecting is based on a criterion relating to an interaction between the medium advance error and faulty nozzle correction processes.

Selections of correction processes for printing devices

An example printing apparatus is described comprising a wiping element before the print zone, for slipping in contact with a print medium and wiping a printing surface of the print medium. An implementation of a wiping roller for wiping the printing surface of a print medium may comprise a rigid core, a layer of elastic material and a driving pinion. An example method for printing is also described, comprising spreading over a larger print medium area, by wiping, amounts of a substance that may migrate through a print medium and that is present on the printing surface of a print medium, before printing on the print medium.

Wiping print media

Examples associated with printer configuration are disclosed. One example includes printing, using a printer, a first portion of a test patch in a first print direction. A second portion of the test patch is printed in a second print direction. The second portion is printed at a first offset from the first portion. A first portion of a second test patch is printed in the first print direction, and a second portion of the second test patch is printed in the second print direction at a second offset from the first portion of the second test patch. The printer is configured to print in the second print direction using one of the first offset and the second offset based on a selection between the first test patch and the second test patch.

Printer configuration

Herein is described a method involving a drop detector. The method may comprise: ejecting ink drops from the nozzles on a printhead toward a drop detector. A drop characteristic may then be determined from the drop detector for each ink-jet nozzle. Drop characteristics for the nozzles across the printhead may be collated into a data set, and compared with a predetermined data set for a printhead having predetermined print behaviour to determine if and how the data sets differ in terms of the pattern of drop characteristics across the printheads. If the data sets differ, a recovery strategy may be selected based how the data sets differ in terms of the pattern of drop characteristics across the printheads. A system and computer readable medium are also described herein.

Drop detection

A printing system comprises a processor to obtain image data comprising first image data defining a first color plane of the image and comprising second image data defining a second color plane of the image. The processor is to manipulate the image data such that the second color plane is shifted relative to the first color plane in a media axis direction of a printer. The printing system comprises a printer to print the manipulated image data with the printer.

Printing systems

A print pre-treatment module is provided for printing an ink on a PVC print medium from a printer. The PVC print medium may have exudates on the surface. The pre-treatment module includes an impermeable material in rubbing contact with the PVC print medium, which is supported on a media roller conveying the print medium. Also disclosed herein are a printer incorporating the module and a method for reducing print defects on the PVC print medium.

Print pre-treatment module

A printer control section arranged to control a printhead, is operable to cause the printhead to: perform a plurality of passes over a swath of a print medium, the plurality of passes including first and second treatment passes; apply treatment to the print medium in each of the treatment passes, the treatment in each treatment pass being applied according to a respective treatment mask, wherein each treatment mask indicates a corresponding set of pixels to which the treatment may be applied in a pass to which the treatment mask is applied, the treatment mask having a weight indicative of the proportion of pixels in the corresponding set of pixels, and the treatment masks of the first and second passes are such that a weight of the first treatment mask is different from a weight of the second treatment mask.

Printer control section, method and printer

In one example, a method for wiping the face of a printhead includes wiping across the face of the printhead and then wiping along the face of the printhead with a web of cleaning material. In another example, a wiper for wiping a face of a printhead includes a rotatable shaft having an axis of rotation and a helical blade affixed to the shaft. The helical blade is simultaneously rotatable on the shaft against the face of the printhead and translatable along the face of the printhead in a direction parallel to the axis of rotation.

Printhead wiping

Herein, techniques are described for printing an image on a print media by operation of a printhead to eject a print fluid over the print media. In at least some examples, a printhead temperature parameter is acquired, the parameter being indicative of a temperature at the printhead during printing; alignment of the printhead is corrected based on the printhead temperature parameter; printing is performed on the print media via the printhead according to the corrected alignment.

In one example, a wiper for wiping the face of a movable printhead includes a stationary blade oriented perpendicular to the direction of travel of the printhead and spanning the path of the printhead.

In the field of printing technology, non impact printing methods such as inkjet printing may be used to deposit an ink composition onto print media to form an image. An ink composition typically comprises a colorant material and a vehicle, such as an aqueous solution, for delivering the colorant material to the print media. A wide range of such ink compositions is known in the industry. It is also known to use various pre-treatment compositions in combination with ink compositions in order to enhance the quality of a final image. Pre-treatment compositions are often substantially colorless liquid compositions that interact with elements of the ink composition to fix colorant to the print media. Pre-treatment compositions may help to improve image quality for example by reducing image bleeding, edge roughness and other image quality issues.

Spatial misalignment of a pre-treatment composition relative to an ink composition

According to one example, there is provided a method of controlling a printing system. The method comprises: obtaining a print job to print on a substrate; obtaining a value of a factor material to an undesirable condition occurring; determining a quantity of printing fluid to be deposited on a substrate when printing a portion of the print job; determining, based on the obtained value and the determined quantity of printing fluid to be deposited, whether the undesirable condition is likely to occur whilst printing the portion of the print job; and temporarily reducing the throughput of the printing system whilst printing the portion of the print job where it is determined that the undesirable condition is likely to occur whilst printing the portion of the print job.
