Techniques for enhancing performance in Industrial Internet-of-Things (IIoT) scenarios, including techniques for time-sensitive networking (TSN) and 5G wireless network integration. An example method, performed by a wireless device, comprises receiving system information (SI) from a radio base station (RBS) of a radio access network (RAN), the SI being indicative of support for TSN through the RBS, and establishing at least one TSN stream with an external data network, through the RBS. The example method further includes receiving a first timing signal from the wireless communications network, via the RBS, receiving a second timing signal from the external TSN data network to which the wireless device is connected, comparing the first timing signal to the second timing signal to determine an offset, and transmitting the offset to the wireless communications network.

Industrial automation with 5G and beyond

The solution presented herein improves the power consumption of an antenna array, such as used in beamforming systems, based on the antenna weights of the one or more antenna elements of the subarrays of the antenna array. To that end, a transmitter node comprising the antenna array determines whether the antenna weights of each subarray satisfy a threshold condition. If the weights satisfy the threshold condition, the transmitter node disables the corresponding power amplifier.

Methods of energy optimization for multi-antenna systems

Systems and methods of managing computational resources are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, a method by a controller () for managing computational resources may include dynamically distributing () computational resource shares among sequential services that are mapped to one or more processors (). Further, each sequential service corresponds to an execution step of a remote application (). Also, a service chain (--) comprises at least one sequential service. The dynamical distribution is based on estimated and predetermined tail latencies and average execution times of each sequential service in the service chain as well as the service chain such that the latencies are met. In addition, the one or more service chains are executed contemporaneously.

The present disclosure relates to methods of metering, and in particular to methods of metering activities of applications in distributed networks. More particular, the disclosure concerns a method for metering the operation of distributed Internet of Things, IoT devices. This disclosure relates to a method for metering activities of an application in a data processing system, wherein said data processing system comprises resource nodes configured to perform activities executed as actors in the respective resource nodes; and wherein the actors are controlled by one or more runtimes in the data processing system. The method comprises tracing, by a runtime, information related to activities executed by actors controlled by the runtime, and metering, by the runtime, the operation of the application based on the part of the traced information, which is related to activities of actors being used by the metered application. Furthermore, the disclosure relates to corresponding apparatuses and computer programs.

Managing metering for distributed IoT applications

A radio frequency communication device (A) comprising a radio frequency communication interface () and a controller (), wherein said controller () is configured to transmit a first message through said radio frequency communication interface () to a receiving radio frequency communication device (B) using a transmission format, receive an indication of a type of interference limiting the reception of the message, adapt a transmission parameter for transmission based on said type of interference (I); and transmit a second message according to said adapted transmission parameter. A dynamic carrier selection method and system permit units operating on a first carrier to change to a second carrier when performance of the first carrier becomes unacceptable. Carrier quality measurements are taken in which carrier quality is a function of interference and multi-path fading and carrier-signal strength. The carrier candidate list is used to permit units to determine which carrier they should switch to when the carrier there currently operating on is determined to have unacceptable performance. Carrier measurements are retaken in response to a carrier change by unit or a predetermined time period having elapsed.

Method and apparatus for dynamically selecting a packet type based on the quality estimates of the channel are disclosed. From these channel quality estimates, specific properties of the packet may be selected including whether a coding scheme should be used, the packet length, and the modulation used. In a communication system, an authentication ciphering offset (ACO) is generated as a function of one or more parameters, wherein at least one of the one or more parameters is derived from earlier-computed values of the ACO. This enables each device to avoid generating an ACO value that is out of synchronization with a counterpart ACO value generated in another communication device.

The present invention includes a method and device for calculating an encryption key, K', for use in the initialization of an encryption algorithm. The present invention discloses a method for calculating the encryption key, K&#x2032;(x), by obtaining a ciphering key, K(x), determining a maximum ciphering key length, L, based on the requirements of the two devices wishing to communicate, and determining a maximum usable encryption key length, L. The ciphering key, K(x), is then manipulated through an addition function or an exclusively-or function with a polynomial g(x). The result is multiplied with a polynomial g(x), which spreads the starting points of said encryption key, K&#x2032;(x). The encryption key is thus determined according to K&#x2032;(x)=g(x)[K(x) mod g(x)]. The method of calculating the encryption key, K&#x2032;, ensures that a maximum ciphering key length is not exceeded. In addition, the method provides new possible starting points each time a new encryption key, K&#x2032;, is generated.

A method for maintaining synchronization between a transmitter and a receiver is disclosed. The method offsets time drift which causes a degradation in the quality of communication between a transmitter and a receiver. The method comprises using a first sampling time to obtain a first sequence of hard decision symbols for decoding contents of a portion of a received packet, switching to a second sampling time upon degradation in a reliability of the symbols, and using the second sampling time to obtain a second sequence of hard decision symbols for decoding contents of a remaining portion of the received packet.

A voice activity detector is disclosed for use with a radio transmitter to continuously sense the presence of speech in an audio signal. Initially, the audio signal is processed to produce a train of signal samples. Signal peaks are identified therefrom, which are used to compute respective values for a succession of quasi-pitch periods associated with the signal sample train. The quasi-pitch period values are then selectively compared with one another, in order to determine the presence or absence of a speech component.

A telecommunications system and method is disclosed for implementing a message authentication code (MAC) for transmitted digital information signals. Digital information signals typically include an error detecting code, such as a Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) code, to ensure reliable delivery of the information. In order to verify the identity of the sending node, the CRC code can be modulated by a sequence known only to the participating nodes. Thus, the CRC code not only provides an error detecting function, but also serves as a message authentication code.
