There is provided a method and an apparatus for updating a background model used for background subtraction of an image. The method comprises: receiving an image (), and classifying a region () in the image as foreground by performing background subtraction using a background model (). The background model comprises a collection of background samples () for each pixel () in the image. The collection of background samples is arranged in a list of background images (). The method further comprises: replacing image contents in the region () of the image which is classified as foreground by image contents of a corresponding region () in a background image in the list, and adding the image to the list of background images by rearranging a collection of pointers () which each points to one of the background images in the list, such that one of the pointers instead points to the image.

Method and apparatus for updating a background model used for background subtraction of an image

There is provided a method, a device and a system for modifying at least one parameter used by a video processing algorithm, such as a motion detection algorithm, an object detection algorithm, or an object tracking algorithm, for monitoring of a scene (). The method comprises: receiving a first () and a second () video sequence of the scene (), wherein the first video sequence () is captured using a thermal camera () such that the first video sequence () comprises thermal information being indicative of temperatures in the scene (), and applying the video processing algorithm to the second video sequence (), wherein at least one parameter used by the video processing algorithm is modified based on the thermal information comprised in the first video sequence ().

Modification of at least one parameter used by a video processing algorithm for monitoring of a scene

A method of monitoring a scene by a camera () comprises marking a part () of the scene with light having a predefined spectral content and a spatial verification pattern. An analysis image is captured of the scene by a sensor sensitive to the predefined spectral content. The analysis image is segmented based on the predefined spectral content, to find a candidate image region. A spatial pattern is detected in the candidate image region, and a characteristic of the detected spatial pattern is compared to a corresponding characteristic of the spatial verification pattern. If the characteristics match, the candidate image region is identified as a verified image region corresponding to the marked part () of the scene. Image data representing the scene is obtained, and image data corresponding to the verified image region is processed in a first manner, and remaining image data is processed in a second manner.
