An automatic umbrella of the collapsible pocket type includes a handle accommodating a first release mechanism (A1) for the opening operation and a second release mechanism (A2) for the closing operation, a control button (11) arranged in the umbrella handle (12) for staggered actuation of the release mechanisms (A1, A2), a telescopically shortenable umbrella stick (1) with an umbrella crown (4), a runner (5) traveling along the umbrella stick (1) and a canopy rib assembly (2) formed by canopy rib units (2.degree.), a first spring mechanism (F1) arranged in the umbrella stick (1) for opening the umbrella by extending the umbrella stick (1), a second spring mechanism (F2) integrated in the canopy rib units (20) and tensioned during opening operation for effecting a closing of the umbrella, a tackle (S) including a rope (S') which engages the runner (5) and cooperates with the release mechanism (A2) via a rod (8) mounted slidably in the umbrella stick (1) and a first catch (9) arranged thereon and formed with a hooked end engageable on a locking member (10). The second release mechanism (A2) includes a release slider (14, 15) cooperating with the first catch (9) and slidably guided within in the stick, and a locking catch (16) slidable synchronously with the release slider (14, 15) and cooperating with the control button (11), with this slidable assembly (14, 15, 16) as a function of retraction and extension of the umbrella stick (1) moving alternately into the position ready for release relative to the first catch (9) and the control button (11) in a direction towards first catch (9), and moves away from the first catch (9) into a neutral position.

Self opening and self closing collapsible umbrella

An umbrella includes an elongated stick for connecting a handle to a cano and an elastic-driven mechanism for controlling operation of the canopy between an open end position and a closed end position by moving a slide mechanism, which is linked to the canopy, relative to the stick. The elastic is set under tension when the canopy occupies one of the end positions to bias the slide mechanism so that the canopy seeks the other end position. A latch releasably locks the slide mechanism when the canopy occupies the one end position.

Self-opening and/or self-closing umbrella

The invention relates to a self-opening topless pocket umbrella having a escopic stick and a collapsible canopy framework arranged radially on the stick in the form of scissor-link folding systems which can be spread out by means of an opening spring and collapsed manually by a slider which is displaceable on the telescopic stick, the respective scissor-link folding system each having a pair of scissor levers, of which an upper scissor lever is linked to the umbrella crown, while the lower scissor lever engages the slider in an articulated manner. In order to make the opening mechanism smoother and to protect the umbrella stick from being scratched as well as, moreover, to design the closed umbrella to be thinner in its cross-section and more pocket-sized, the invention provides that two arms (K', K') of the respective scissor levers (4, 5), together with an intermediate strut (14) arranged between them, form a double lever triangle (D', D'), the intermediate strut (14) engaging at one end on an intermediate crown (C'), which is fixed non-displaceably to the end (1a) of the stick, and engaging at the other end on, or directly adjacent to, the scissor lever cross-joint (6), and that the crown (C') with the joint (7) of the upper scissor lever (4) carries out a free stroke in relation to the intermediate crown (C') when the canopy is opened under the effect of the opening spring (F) stressed between the crown and the telescopic stick (1).

Self-opening topless pocket umbrella

The invention relates to a self opening umbrella having canopy rods (D) wh can be shortened in at least a twofold manner and having a stick (1) which is telescopic in at least two stages and has on it a displaceable slider (2), to which lower struts (3) of the canopy linkage are linked, and having a drive spring (F) for raising the slider and opening the frame. In order to reduce the manual force required when pulling the slider down upon closing the umbrella canopy and also to minimize the sliding friction of the spring on the stick, the spring (F) is to supported with its lower end (F') on a rigid abutment (W) of the stick (1) and acts on a crown (20) which is displaceable axially relatively to the top of the stick.

Self opening umbrella

A shortenable umbrella has a frame with three part canopy-supporting rods 1, D2, D3) which are respectively associated with two interacting parallelogram linkage (P1, P2). A corner of one linkage (P1) is provided by a pin and slot (9,9a) of which the pin passes through a diagonal (Di) of the linkage to a stable over centre position, maintained by radial tension in a canopy cover (18), when the umbrella is opened. The over centre effect is automatically released by spreading of struts (3) at the beginning of closing of the umbrella.

An improvement in self-opening umbrella frames having either a one-piece or elescopic stick and a main slide and an auxilary slide on the stick to operate the a frame-rib structure which is opened automatically by a coil spring compressed between these two slides; the frame-rib structure being closed by pulling down on a tubular grip sleeve journaled for rotation on the stick and extending through the two slides, the grip sleeve having an upper abutment or carrier engaged at the top of the auxilary slide; the grip sleeve being locatable about a 360.degree. circumference by an arresting catch on the umbrella handle at the lower end of the stick; torsional forces generated by the coiled spring during expansion and compression being isolated between the slides and not interferring with operation of the arresting catch while minimizing opening and closing effort of a user of the umbrella.

Telescopic umbrella stick for collapsible umbrellas

A clamping device of a static umbrella (e.g. the frame of a garden or beach mbrella) has a segment which is flexibly connected to a bush which surrounds an umbrella stick. A handle rotatably mounted in a boss attached to the bush is able to overcome the natural springiness of the segment to move it towards the umbrella stick so that a clamping cheek of the segment holds the umbrella stick in position relative to a base tube. With this construction, the device need have no longitudinal split, which would expose the mechanism to the effects of the weather, and the mechanism is enclosed, thereby preventing the umbrella stick or users from being hurt on the sharp corners and edges of the mechanism.

A telescopic stick for a shortenable umbrella having at least two telesco parts guided in one another so as to be secure against relative twisting or rotation about their longitudinal axes; the two parts being provided with complementary polygonal profile or cross-section; the polygonal profile comprising at least 10 facets which embellish the umbrella stick and improve its jewel-like appearance while functioning to prevent relative rotation and preserving stability of operation as the stick is telescoped from an umbrella 'open' to 'closed' condition; at least one of the facets of the polygonal cross section having a concave or convex curvature in the circumferential direction.

Telescopic stick for a shortenable umbrella

An umbrella frame has a pivotal connection between a crown or slider and canopy spokes or struts (1), respectively. The connection involves a sheet metal sleeve (3), which is carried on a stick (4) and has, integrally formed with it, an annular flange (5) and lobes (6). Each lobe comprises an axially extending inner section (6a) and an, initially outwardly extending, outer section (6b). During assembly, the outer sections are curled inwards about pivot pins(s) for the spokes or struts (1), which are seated in radius portions (R) at the junctions of the inner and outer lobe sections.

Umbrella frame

A sunshade having a cover which can be folded together in fan-like manner and is supported by at least three support struts, at least the outer two support struts having one end pivoted to a bearing member which is swingable around at least one horizontal axis on a stand bar and can be locked in position thereon and the outer two support struts can be pivoted via a spreading slide by one spreading strut each, the spreading slide being displaceable and lockable on a central support strut which is fixed to the bearing member. In order to simplify handling even in case of larger dimensions, an adjustment bar is pivoted to the spreading slide by which adjustment bar the spreading slide can be displaced on the central support strut while the support struts are approximately parallel to the stand bar. On the central support strut there is pivoted an opening bar which is lockable to the stand bar at various positions for swinging the cover carried by the support struts around the horizontal axis of the bearing member. Instead of a separate adjustment bar, the opening bar can also be pivoted to the spreading slide and its lower end pivoted to a support slide which can be displaced and locked fast on the stand bar.

Sunshade

A shortenable umbrella with blades carrying the umbrella canopy, the blades being shortenable by telescoping and/or folding, wherein the innermost blade parts are pivoted on a crown secured on the shortenable rod assembly. The blades are horizontally pivotable by a fork means and a slider means such that each outermost blade part is foldably articulated on the adjacent blade part by a control rod which acts on an extension of the outermost blade part. The umbrella is characterized in that the inner end of each control rod engages in back of the associated fork with direct contact and is articulated on a guide member which effects a guiding of the control rod on a limited path along the fork.

A shortenable umbrella with blades carrying the umbrella canopy, the blades being shortenable by telescoping and/or folding, of which the innermost blade parts are pivoted on a crown secured on a shortenable rod assembly and respectively are horizontally pivotable by means of at least one fork by means of at least one slider, whereby each outermost blade part is hinged foldable onto the adjacent blade part by means of a control rod which acts on an extension of the outermost blade part. The inner-lying end of each control rod surrounds the fork associated therewith by means of a guide opening which is large in area with respect to the cross-section of the fork, the guide opening making possible a displacement of the inner-lying end of the control rod in the longitudinal direction of the fork and/or of the control rod.

A shortenable umbrella with frame or blade parts carrying the umbrella canopy in opened condition, the frame parts being shortenable at least by a factor of two by telescoping or folding, of which the innermost parts are pivoted on a crown secured on a shortenable rod assembly and are horizontally pivotable by means of at least one slider by means of at least one set of forks, whereby each outermost blade part is hinged foldable on the adjacent blade part by means of a control rod which acts on an extension of each outermost blade part. A control piece is formed as a slide hinge which is displaceably guided on the fork, the slide hinge being articulated on the middle hinge by means of a connection portion spaced from the articulation point of the fork. The inner end of the control rod is articulated pivotally on the control piece, the movement of the fork actuating the control piece.
