A method for semi-endless or endless rolling by casting a metal strand, especially a steel strand, which is cut to length as required after solidification, wherein the cut lengths of cast strand are fed into a roller hearth furnace for heating and homogenizing at rolling temperature and are then fed at rolling temperature into a rolling mill to be rolled out. The continuous casting is continued without interruption during the rolling operation, and a sufficient buffer time for a roll change is maintained in the rolling mill. For carrying out a roll change, the casting rate is reduced as a function of the feed rate of the rolling mill and/or the roll-changing time, and/or the buffer length of the roller hearth furnace, and/or the final rolled thickness after the strand has been cut to length.

Method and continuous casting and rolling plant for semi-endless or endless rolling by casting a metal strand, especially a steel strand, which is cut to length as required after solidification

The invention relates to a method and casting roller plant for the semi-endless or endless rolling by casting of a metal, in particular a steel strip (), which may be transversely separated as required after solidification. The casting strip part lengths () are fed to a roller furnace () for heating and equilibration at the rolling temperature and the partial lengths () for rolling out are fed to a rolling train () for rolling, whereby the strip casting is continued uninterrupted during the rolling operation. According to the invention, a closer matching of the strip casting and the rolling can be carried out, whereby the casting speed (V) is reduced for a roller change such that between the end of rolling a preceding multiple length () and the insertion of a new partial length () or multiple lengths () into the rolling gear a sufficient buffer time for a roller exchange is provided.

A device for continuously casting metals, especially steel, consists of multipleconsecutive segments () which each form the strand guide for casting strands of different widths (), with roller pairs (). The rollers are rotationally mounted on segment frames (), these segment frames () each being braced with strand guide frames () on both sides. The aim of the invention is to reduce profile increases in the cross-section of the casting strand () in the residual solidification area (), by providing a power mechanism () at least on the fixed side of the segment frame () of a segment (), between the segment frame () and a transversal member () connecting the strand guide frames () on the two sides. Said power mechanism is situated approximately on the middle strand axis. The power transmission element () of the power mechanism acts upon the segment frame (), while its base () is supported on the transversal member ().

A guide element of a continuous casting plant, particularly a continuous casting plant for thin slabs, for guiding a metal strip in a strand guiding direction includes a pair of guide rollers which are located opposite each other relative to the metal strip and form a roller gap. The pair of guide rollers is provided with an adjusting device for adjusting a crown of the roller gap.

A continuous casting plant suitable for casting steel slabs, wherein the partially solidified strand composed of a strand shell and a partially liquid core is guided after emerging from the mold during the further solidification between the rollers of a strand guiding unit which has a loose or movable side and a fixed side, and wherein the strand shell forms in the areas between always two rollers spaced apart from each other in the casting direction a deformation in the form of a bulge with an increase of the cross-section. For compensating for an increase of the cross-section of a respective strand portion, a counter-pressure is applied from the outside against the strand area located opposite the strand portion with the increased cross-section in order to reduce the cross-section.

A continuous-casting mold having two broad-side walls carrying the mold-forming plates which are preferably of copper and clamp the narrow side wall members between them. The entire assembly is received in an outer frame which is shape stable and hence rigid so as to take up all forces which arise in adjustment of the plates as clamping forces and as thermal forces from, for example, thermal expansion of the mold members.
