The present disclosure describes a process for producing an engine component, e.g., a piston for an internal combustion engine, where an aluminum alloy is cast by gravity diecasting, and an engine component composed at least partly of an aluminum alloy. The aluminum alloy includes silicon 8% to 17% by wt., copper 2% to 10% by wt., nickel 1% to 6% by wt., iron 0.1% to 3.5% by wt., magnesium 0.1% to 2% by wt., manganese 0.1% to 4% by wt., barium up to 4% by wt., titanium up to 0.5% by wt., zirconium up to 0.4% by wt., vanadium up to 0.3% by wt., phosphorus up to 0.05% by wt., chromium up to 0.3% by wt., and a balance of aluminum and unavoidable impurities.

Process for producing an engine component, engine component and the use of an aluminum alloy

The present invention relates to a method for producing a multi-part piston () for an internal combustion engine, comprising the following method steps: producing an upper piston part () and a lower piston part (), each having an inner support element () having joining surfaces () and an outer support element () having joining surfaces (), applying a high-temperature solder material in the area of at least one joining surface (oror), assembling the upper piston part () and the lower piston part () to form a piston body by establishing a contact between the joining surfaces (oror), placing the piston body in a vacuum furnace and evacuating the vacuum furnace; heating the piston body at a pressure of at most 10mbar to a soldering temperature of at most 1300&#xb0; C.; cooling the soldered piston () at a pressure of at most 10mbar until the high-temperature solder material is completely solidified. The present invention further relates to a piston () that can be produced by means of the method.

In a laser processing machine for processing workpieces using a laser beam (), a telescope () for widening the laser beam () comprises an ellipsoidal mirror () and a paraboloidal mirror () whose axes of rotation () extend parallel, in particular collinear, to each other. This orientation permits precise production of the reflecting surfaces of the two mirrors through one single clamping (e.g. through diamond lathe) such that later adjustment is not required.

An optical system for reforming a laser beam with azimuthal polarization having X and Y components into a beam with linear polarization has a multiplicity of optical elements, at least one of which has a mirror having an absorbing thin film reflective coating to remove the Y-component of the azimuthal beam polarization, thereby reflecting only the X or linear component as a linearly polarized beam. The absorbing thin film reflective coating is comprised of a plurality of layers alternately having high and low indices of refraction. The optical elements include a spatial filter and the beam is passed through the spatial filter to adjust the beam quality.
