The invention relates to an infrared radiator with a heating element containing carbon fibers disposed in a quartz glass tube, with its ends connected to contact elements running through the wall of the quartz glass tube. The known radiators are improved by the fact that the heating element is spaced away from the wall of the quartz glass tube and it is centered on the axis of the quartz glass tube by means of spacers. The invention furthermore relates to a method by which the infrared radiator is operated at heating element temperatures greater than 1000&#xb0; C.

An infrared lamp with a closed-off enveloping tube which encloses an emission source joined with contacts for a power supply in the form of a carbon ribbon which, extending in a direction of a long axis of the enveloping tube, determines an irradiation length of the infrared lamp in the sense of a higher irradiation output. The carbon ribbon has a length which is larger than the irradiation length by a factor of at least 1.5. With a procedure for heating a material to be processed using the infrared lamp, which makes possible short processing times in connection with a simultaneous high degree of energy efficiency, the infrared lamp may be operated such that its maximum emission lies within a wavelength range from 1.8 &mgr;m to 2.9 &mgr;m, and such that its power output comes to at least 15 Watts per cm of the volume enclosed by the enveloping tube over the irradiation length.

Infrared lamp and procedure for heating material to be processed

A coolable infrared radiator element of quartz glass with at least one heating tube, which has a gas-tight current lead-through at each of its two ends. A long, stretched-out electrical heating conductor in the heating tube serves as the radiation source. At least one cooling element is provided which has at least one cooling channel for a liquid coolant. A metal reflector is provided at least in the area of the heating conductor, which reflector has at least one reflective surface. The problem is to provide an infrared radiator which can deliver high energy concentrations of >500 kW/m in conjunction with low radiation losses. The problem is solved in that at least one reflective surface, when seen in cross section, describes a line around a surface, where the opening for the passage of at least some of the liquid coolant is provided in the area of this surface.

Coolable infrared radiator element of quartz glass

An apparatus for heating a pin shaped thermoplastic material is provided including a quartz tube, a heat radiator and a securing mechanism. The quartz tube has tube ends and is helix shaped. The heat radiator is arranged in the quartz tube and includes an electrical resistance wire connected to a power supply. The securing mechanism is a heat resistant element connected to the quartz tube that secures the part to be heated relative to the quartz tube along an axis of the quartz tube and heats the plastic part. The quartz tube and/or the part to be heated are moveable. An apparatus is also provided for heating a number of pin shaped plastic parts simultaneously. In addition, a method for heating one or more pin shaped plastic parts is also provided.

A radiation system has at least two elongated envelope tubes permeable to light and infrared radiation which are joined together and sealed from the ambient atmosphere, a first envelope tube of which contains an incandescent coil which is electrically connected through sealed tube ends and external contacts to an external power supply and emits infrared radiation in the near IR range; furthermore, at least a second envelope tube is provided which has an elongated carbon strip as an infrared radiator for radiation in the medium IR range, which is likewise connected through sealed ends and external contacts with the external power supply or with an additional external power supply. Preferably a carbon strip is used as the radiator strip, which is configured either as an elongated coil or forms an elongated strip. It is thus possible to produce both infrared radiation in the near IR range and infrared radiation in the medium IR range, so that in the case, for example, of the surface application of paints both paint pigments and pigment solvents can be rapidly vaporized and dried.

In the production of spiral-shaped heating elements, a device winds an oblong base material onto a mandrel while forming a spiral with the base material and equips the ends of the spiral with contacts for electrical connection. The device includes a feeding device for supplying the mandrel, onto whose casing surface the base material is wound in a spiral shape, with the oblong base material. In order to carry out a method for the production of a spiral-shaped heating element made of material containing carbon fibers, the method is as follows: utilize a base material that comprises carbon fibers which have been embedded into IBM a thermoplastic embedding compound, heat the base material to a temperature at which the embedding compound softens, wind the softened base material onto the mandrel while forming the spiral, and set the spiral shape by removing the embedding compound. On the device used to carry out the method, there is included a heating device which affects the base material in the area of the casing surface of the mandrel and can be adjusted to a temperature above the softening temperature of the embedding compound. The invented heating element, which distinguished itself due to its low thermal inertia and high radiation capacity at comparatively low temperatures, is formed in the shape of a spiral having a series of carbon fibers that are connected with each other.

A radiant device comprising an envelope tube, which tube contains a long axis, and inside the tube, at least one radiant source oriented in the direction of the long axis of the envelope tube which is sealed at both ends, with a metal, electrical connecting part at each end of the envelope tube, and at least one elastic intermediate part which absorbs length changes of the radiant source and which is firmly joined at one end to an electrical connecting part and at the other end to the radiant source, and wherein the intermediate part comprises a molybdenum sheet provided with at least one folding portion having two kink points perpendicular to the long axis.

A spheroidally emitting infrared emitter with a sheathing bulb. A radiation source provided with an electrical connection is surrounded by the sheathing bulb. The radiation source includes a first radiation strip that is bent along its longitudinal axis in such a way that it has a top, convex, curved flat side. The device is improved with regard to its thermal inertia while achieving a high radiation output.

A short-wave infrared surface radiator, with at least one infrared radiator, is equipped with a cladding tube. The cladding tube encloses, in a vacuum-tight manner, a heating element, which has an electric connection that is guided out of the cladding tube on a connection-side end via a pinch on a face of the cladding tube. A molybdenum foil is sealed into the cladding tube. Several infrared radiators that are connected to each other are arranged in an adjacent and parallel design while forming a joint radiating plane, with the connection-side end of the cladding tubes each being angled with regard to the radiating plane. The cladding tubes are fused together in an area of their front side that is opposite an angled section.

To provide a easily manufactured high-temperature connection between a pinch-sealed end of a tubular radiator and a base, without requiring cement, the pinch-sealed end has a projecting lead (9) which is fitted into, or against, a projecting end portion (11', 12') of a terminal (11, 12) with a headed outer end (11', 12'); the lead, and the projecting portion of the terminal are securely electrically and mechanically connected within a longitudinal opening (15', 16') of the base (15, 16). This connection can be effected by forming a lateral opening (19, 19') in the base in a region of engagement, or overlap of the lead (9, 10) and the projecting portion (11', 12'), and introducing energy from one side, e.g., by laser welding, or from both sides, e.g., by spot welding, or mechanical compression of the lead (9, 10), and the extending portion (11', 12') of the terminal. The base is held in position by engagement against the pinch or press seal on one side, and, on the other, against the headed end (11', 12') of the connecting terminal (11, 12).

To permit economical attachment of a socket end to the press of a lamp, the socket is made of a deformable synthetic plastic material, for example Teflon PFA, the socket having concentric cylindrical surfaces and being of cup shape, and the lamp press having rectangular cross section, the socket being heated to softening temperature and the lamp press to melting temperature of the socket material and then inserted into the cup-shaped socket to permit instantaneous melting andflowing of the socket material around the edges of the rectangular press, and thus seat the socket on the press end. The socket is preferably preheated in a metal mold block, and the press by a flame directed towards the end press of the lamp from a side remote from that of the electrical connection to the lead-through of the press.
