A controller is provided for a Cloud based service handling multiple types of traffic in a telecommunications network, the controller comprising: a first stage configured to automatically model use of Cloud resources allocated to the service for specific workloads of each of a plurality of traffic types, so as provide a variety of models for each traffic type; a second stage configured to automatically reduce the number of and generalise the models so as to provide generalised models for each traffic type applicable to other workloads than the specific loadings; a third stage configured to automatically evaluate accuracy of the generalised models for various combinations of given workloads, in each combination each of the given workloads being of a corresponding traffic type, and to select one of the generalised models dependent upon evaluated accuracy; and a fourth stage configured to control operation of the Cloud resources according to the selected model.

Controller for a cloud based service in a telecommunications network, and a method of providing a cloud based service

The invention concerns a method of providing a real-time communication connection over an IP communication network between a first entity and a second entity, as well as a sending and a receiving device to execute the method. The basic idea of the invention is to fragment non-real-time streams associated with the real-time communication connection at the first entity, to multiplex the fragments of the non-real-time streams into real-time streams of the real-time communication connection at the first entity, and to transmit the multiplexed real-time streams comprising the real-time streams and the fragments of the non-real-time streams via the real-time communication connection from the first entity to the second entity. In order to ensure a reliable quality of service of the real-time data, the real-time part of the multiplexed data stream is assigned the highest priority for transmission. At the second entity, the multiplexed real-time streams are demultiplexed, the fragments of the non-real-time streams are re-composed and the original non-real-time streams are re-generated.

A service-on-demand system (SYS) includes a facility (EIN) which is designed to assign transmission channels to terminals (END , END ). To accomplish this, the facility (EIN) contains two interfaces (S , S ) for connecting it to two groups of terminals (END , END ), a memory (MEMO) which holds an assignment table containing entries on currently available and currently busy transmission channels for transmitting services requested from terminals (END , END ), with a variable assignment of transmission channels to terminals (END , END ) being possible regardless of which group the terminals (END , END ) belong to, and a control unit (CTRL) which coordinates the assignment. Only those transmission channels can be assigned which are considered currently available in the memory (MEMO). The transmission channels are not permanently assigned to groups but are largely freely available to all terminals (END , END ). For example, a minimum number of freely available transmission channels may be reserved for each group, and the remaining channels may be used both by terminals of group and by terminals of group , etc., depending on traffic volume and demand. This provides flexibility and adapts the assignment of transmission channels automatically to the traffic volume.
