A communication device and method therein for handling paging from a network node and data exchanging with a host. The communication device is one of a group of closely located communication devices capable of communicating with each other via a short-range wireless connection or a wired connection and is capable of communicating with the host over a long-range wireless connection via the network node. The communication device receives a page from the network node at a predefined occasion and evaluates if the page is targeted for itself or is targeted for one of the other devices in the group. When the page is targeted for itself, the communication device performs a paging response. When the page is targeted for one of the other devices in the group of closely located communication devices, the communication device forwards paging information to the targeted communication device.

Communication device, host and methods therein for handling paging and data exchanging in wireless communication system

A method is disclosed for a network node of a cellular communication network adapted for application of an uplink triggered cell handover functionality. The uplink triggered cell handover functionality may comprise initiating a handover when it is determined that an uplink channel performance metric relating to a serving cell falls on a first side of (e.g. is lower than) an uplink handover threshold. The method comprises dynamically restricting application of the uplink triggered cell handover functionality based on whether a restriction criterion is met or not. The restriction criterion is based on at least one of a resource cost of the uplink triggered cell handover functionality and a performance gain of the uplink triggered cell handover functionality. For example, the method may comprise, when the UL triggered cell handover functionality is enabled, disabling the UL triggered cell handover functionality if a disabling criterion is met and, when the UL triggered cell handover functionality is disabled, enabling the UL triggered cell handover functionality if an enabling criterion is met. In some embodiments, restricting application of the uplink triggered cell handover functionality may comprise restricting the application for all wireless communication devices served by the network node. In some embodiments, restricting application of the uplink triggered cell handover functionality may comprise restricting the application for at least one specific wireless communication device served by the network node. Corresponding arrangement, network node and computer program product are also disclosed.

Uplink triggered cell handover control

A mobile communications terminal comprising a memory, a radio interface and a controller is disclosed. The controller is configured to enable a multiple-layer protocol stack comprising at least a Network layer to establish an RRC connection through said radio interface by transmitting an RRC connection request to a first base station, receiving a response; determine a cause of reject, notify a higher layer, and establishing a second connection for communicating through.

Establishment of an RRC connection in a mobile communications terminal

A wireless communication device intends to request an RRC connection to initiate a voice call, initiate a data session or respond to paging. The wireless communication device considers the maximum response time for the connection setup indicated by a serving cell and compare to the maximum response (i.e. waiting) time for the connection setup indicated by a neighbour cell. A long maximum response time may indicate a cell with high load. If the maximum response time indicated by a neighbour cell is significantly lower, the wireless communication device may either reselect and request RRC connection from this neighbour cell instead or reduce the time to wait for a response from the serving cell and reselect to the neighbour cell if there is no response from the serving cell within the reduced time.

Radio resource control connection establishment

A mobile UE initiates a full search of all supported frequencies upon detecting a change in the Mobile Country Code (MCC) transmitted by a PLMN. The change in MCC indicates the user had crossed a political border, and the spectrum allocated for wireless communication may be different. In one embodiment, the mobile UE stores the current MCC. Upon obtaining an updated MCC, it is compared to the stored MCC. If the updated MCC is different from the stored MCC, the full frequency search is initiated. To prevent excessive searching, with concomitant power consumption, while traveling near a border, the UE waits a predetermined duration after an MCC-initiated full scan before conducting a subsequent full scan, even if the MCC changes within that duration.
