The present application provides a method for controlling soot make in a process for the gasification of a liquid carbonaceous feedstock. The gasification process comprises: partially oxidizing the carbonaceous feedstock in a gasifier to produce syngas; guiding the syngas from an outlet of the gasifier to a quench section; cooling the syngas in the quench section to provide cooled syngas; providing the cooled syngas to a soot removal unit; using the soot removal unit to remove solids from the cooled syngas, the soot removal unit providing a cleaned syngas stream and a waste slurry stream comprising the solids removed from the syngas; continuously monitoring a concentration of total suspended solids (TSS) in the waste slurry stream; providing the concentration of total suspended solids (TSS) to a control system. The control system continuously optimizes the gasification process to changes in concentration of total suspended solids, carbon-to-ash ratio, and optional additional parameters.

Method and system for controlling soot make in synthesis gas production

A gasification system for the oxidation of a carbonaceous feedstock to provide a synthesis gas comprising: a reactor chamber for oxidizing the carbonaceous feedstock; a quench section for holding a bath of liquid coolant; an intermediate section having a reactor outlet opening through which the synthesis gas is conducted from the reactor chamber into the bath of the quench section; at least one layer of refractory bricks arranged on the reactor chamber floor, the lower end section of the refractory bricks enclosing the reactor outlet opening and defining the inner diameter thereof; the intermediate section including a number of halved tubes for liquid coolant arranged onto at least part of the reactor chamber floor on a side thereof opposite to the lower end section of the refractory bricks; and a pump system for circulating the liquid coolant through the halved tubes on the reactor chamber floor.

Gasification system and process

A gasification system for the partial oxidation of a carbonaceous feedstock to at least provide a synthesis gas, the system comprising a reactor chamber and a quench section below the reactor chamber. An intermediate section connecting the reactor chamber to the quench section comprises at least one layer of refractory bricks arranged on and supported by the reactor chamber floor, the refractory bricks enclosing a reactor outlet opening. A membrane wall extends downwardly from the reactor outlet opening of the reactor chamber floor. A pump system is provided communicating with a source of a liquid coolant for circulating the liquid coolant through the tubes of the membrane wall.

A process for the production of synthesis gas by partial combustion of a hydrocarbon feed using a burner with a plurality of coaxial channels, the method comprising the following steps: supplying a non-gaseous hydrocarbon feed using at least one of the plurality of coaxial channels; supplying a gaseous hydrocarbon feed using at least one of the plurality of coaxial channels; supplying an oxidizer gas using at least one of the plurality of coaxial channels; separately supplying a moderator gas using at least one of the plurality of coaxial channels; arranging the at least one channel supplying the non-gaseous hydrocarbon feed between two adjacent channels among the plurality of coaxial channels, wherein the two adjacent channels both supplying a flow containing the gaseous hydrocarbon feed or respectively supplying a flow containing the gaseous hydrocarbon feed and a flow of the moderator gas.

Production of synthesis gas

The invention comprises a gasification reactor which comprises a vessel having at its upper end a downwardly directed burner and a combustion chamber located in the upper half of the vessel. The wall of the combustion chamber comprises an arrangement of interconnected parallel arranged tubes running from a common lower arranged distributor to a higher arranged common header. The distributor is connected to a cooling water supply conduit and the header is connected to a steam discharge conduit. Both the steam discharge conduit and the water supply conduit are fluidly connected to a steam drum. The steam drum is provided with a supply conduit for fresh water and the steam drum is positioned at a higher elevation than the common header.

Gasification reactor

A gasification reactor vessel comprising a combustion chamber in the upper half of the vessel, provided with a product gas outlet at the bottom end of the combustion chamber, at least two burner openings are present in the wall of the combustion chamber, which burner openings are located at the same horizontal level and are positioned diametrical relative to each other and wherein in each burner opening a burner is present, wherein between the wall of the combustion chamber and the wall of vessel an annular space is provided, wherein the wall of the combustion chamber comprises an arrangement of interconnected tubes (vertical arranged or helical coiled), wherein the product gas outlet at the bottom end of the combustion chamber is fluidly connected to a dip-tube, which partly is submerged in a water bath located at the lower end of the reactor vessel, and wherein at the upper end of the dip-tube means are present to add a quenching medium to the, in use, downwardly flowing mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide.
