An airbag module for a vehicle occupant restraint system includes an airbag () and a gas generator () that is connected via at least one first outflow opening () to an airbag chamber (), the airbag chamber () being at least partially formed by the interior of the airbag (), an actuator unit () being provided on the gas generator () and, when the actuator unit () is activated, it releases a traction element () that causes a pressure reduction in the airbag (), an activation of the actuator unit () also leading to an opening of a second outflow opening () in the gas generator (), which vents generator gas to an environment without this vented gas flowing into the airbag chamber (). Moreover, the invention relates to a method of restraining a vehicle occupant with such an airbag module.

Airbag module and method of restraining a vehicle occupant with such an airbag module

An airbag module for a vehicle occupant restraint system comprises a housing and an airbag which is folded up into an airbag pack. The airbag is arranged in the housing and is adapted to be inflated by gas from a pressurized gas source. The housing has an outlet opening that defines an outlet plane and has a predetermined width that is smaller than the largest width of the airbag pack, measured parallel to the outlet plane.

Airbag module

A gas bag module for a vehicle occupant restraint system has a gas bag, a gas generator being in flow connection with the gas bag, and at least one cover part adapted to cover the gas bag against a passenger compartment when the gas bag module is mounted in a vehicle. The cover part has a hinge portion which allows the cover part to pivot from a closed condition into an opened condition in which the gas bag is able to exit from the gas bag module, and further having an edge opposite the hinge portion. At least one traction transfer device is provided which has a first and a second end and is adapted to exert a tensile force on the cover part after activation of the gas generator. The first end of the traction transfer device is attached to the edge of the cover part so that the cover part opens in a direction towards the gas bag due to the tensile force exerted by the traction transfer device.

Gas bag module

A knee restraint device for vehicles has a base, a knee protector component which is movable toward the knees of a vehicle occupant, and a drive structure for driving the knee protector component toward the knees of a vehicle occupant. The drive structure is arranged between the base and the knee protector component. Further, a limiting- and positioning structure is provided for limiting the travel of the knee protector component towards the knees of a vehicle occupant and for positioning the knee protector component relative to the knees of a vehicle occupant. The limiting-and positioning structure is fastened to the base and is constructed in one piece with the knee protector component. The limiting-and positioning structure is deformable on activation of the drive structure and has a predetermined rigidity, this rigidity-being sufficient so as to prevent any change in shape of the limiting-positioning structure under its weight.

Knee-retaining device for a vehicle

A gas bag module for a vehicle occupant restraint system comprises a module housing, a gas bag having a folded region, a gas generator, an unfolding opening via which the gas bag emerges in the case of restraint, a covering for the unfolding opening, and a flexible traction transfer device to expose the unfolding opening. The traction transfer device is connected with the covering. Further, the module comprises an intermediate wall provided between the folded region of the gas bag and the gas generator and connected with the traction transfer device. The intermediate wall is shifted by gas generated on activation of the gas generator in such a manner that the traction transfer device draws the covering away from the unfolding opening.

Gas bag module for a vehicle occupant restraint system

A gas bag module for a vehicle occupant restraint system includes a module housing, a covering, a gas bag, a gas generator, and at least one device for opening the covering so that an opening results. The covering is opened in the case of restraint by the device even before inflow of gas into the gas bag and the gas bag unfolds through the resulting opening.

A gas bag module for a vehicle occupant restraint system has a generally trough-shaped housing, a folded gas bag and an insert for insertion into the housing. The housing has a face wall with an opening. The gas bag module further comprises a tubular inflator. The tubular inflator is inserted into the housing through the opening in the face wall of the housing. The housing has an inner side with supporting faces for the insert. The insert has integral rim portions surrounded by an inflation opening in the gas bag. The insert is provided with an integral guide plate extending substantially parallel to inner surface areas of the housing and slightly spaced away therefrom. The insert comprises, opposite the opening in the face wall of the housing, a corresponding opening for passage of the inflator. The inflator protrudes outwardly from the opening in the face wall of the housing. The insert is clamped at the rim portions against the supporting faces of the housing.

A gas bag module comprises a housing for an inflator, a retaining ring for a gas bag and a cover for said gas bag. The housing, the retaining ring and the cover are formed from plastic material. The cover is provided with latching elements snapped into place on the retaining ring.

Gas bag module for a vehicular occupant restraint system

A gas bag restraint module is disclosed. According to a first embodiment, the gas bag restraint module comprises a housing having a generally cylindrical accommodation part and two axially extending attachment strips running outwards from the accommodation part. The gas bag restraint module further comprises a bottle-shaped pressurized gas container axially inserted into the accommodation part. The pressurized gas container provides a volume of pressurized gas after activation. Still further, the gas bag restraint module comprises a folded gas bag adapted to be inflated by pressurized gas provided by the pressurized gas container. The gas bag comprises an inflation opening surrounded by an attachment section. The attachment section is provided with an attachment frame comprising at least one through opening which is in fluid communication with the inflation opening. The attachment frame is accommodated between the attachment strips and is fixed at the accommodation part. A second embodiment differs from the first embodiment in that the housing comprises a generally trough-shaped accommodation part, and in that the pressurized gas container is inserted into the accommodation part.

Gas bag restraint module

A gas bag restraining module having a housing (10), an inflation device (12) located in the latter, said inflation device providing a volume of pressurized gas after activation, and having a folded gas bag (50), which has an attachment section fixed to the housing (10) and surrounding an inflation aperture, should be adapted to the use of an inflation device, which is known in the form of a 'heated gas inflator'. For this purpose, the invention provides that the inflation device has a cylindrical pressurized gas container (12), the housing (10) is formed with a trough-shaped base to accommodate the pressurized gas container (12) and a box-shaped upper section, the attachment section of the gas bag (50) is provided with an attachment frame (40) and the attachment frame (40) is inserted in the upper section of the housing (10).

Gas bag passenger restraint module

A gas bag restraint module is provided which comprises a housing provided with a generally hollow accomodation part and with two axially extending attachment strips extending outwards from the accomodation part. A bottle-shaped pressurized gas container is axially inserted into the accomodation part, the gas container providing a volume of pressurized gas after actuation. The gas bag restraint module further comprises a folded gas bag provided with an attachment section surrounding an inflation aperture. The attachment section is connected to the housing by means of an attachment frame which is accomodated between the attachment strips and which comprises at least one through passage.

The vehicle steering wheel with integrated gas bag restraining system is composed of two steering wheel parts, a first steering wheel part (10) comprising the steering wheel rim with sheathing as well as spokes and a fastener flange, and a second part (20) forming the hub part (22) and with a bush (26) for securing to the end of the steering shaft (28). Within the steering wheel a gas bag module (30) is accommodated. The cover (12a) of this gas bag module (30) is integrated in the sheathing (12) of the steering wheel.
