The invention pertains to an electrode grid for lead batteries with a rectangular grid frame, pasting accessory rails arranged on it, and a group of grid cross members which form the skeleton to hold the active mass, the pasting accessory rails extending on both sides of the electrode grid solely in the pasting direction and, especially on the front and back side of the electrode grid, are arranged offset from each other.

A hermetic pole seal for lead storage batteries which averts the customary use of lead sleeves, involves a first ring-shaped molding surrounding the pole shaft with a rubber-elastic synthetic plastic (thermoplastic rubber) and a second molding covering the former with a less elastic synthetic, which is preferably identical to the case material (e.g. polypropylene), followed by mirror welding to the lid. The sealing of the pole lead-through results from material shrinkage following the molding. In so doing, the different plastics mesh from opposite sides.

A plate stack clamping element is formed of adjacent leaf springs preformed to diverge where they extend beyond the plate stack. Compression of the diverging portions creates large area contact clamping force against the plate stack.

The plate stacks are positioned for further processing in a clamping arrangement with clamping elements between stacks. Each element is displaceable by an amount of play X with respect to its neighboring element.

A valve body has outlet ducts to be positioned below the surface of the molten lead, and a head rotatable with respect to the body. The head has recesses which terminate in slots that can be aligned with the outlet ducts to open the valve. These slots have smaller cross-sections than the ducts. The body also has open ended passages which align with the outlet ducts when the valve is closed.
