Process for the removal of residue particles from a pressurized

Moist bulk coal is supplied into a fluidized bed drier into which is introduced a first heat carrier gas to thereby dry the moist coal to form dried coal. The dried coal is discharged from the drier and is transferred to a generally horizontal bulk material conveyor. A second heat carrier gas is injected through the bottom of the bulk material conveyor, thereby transporting the coal generally horizontally and preheating the coal to form preheated coal. The preheated coal is then discharged from the bulk material conveyor and is filled into a selected charging opening of a coke oven battery.

Method of preheating coal and supplying preheated coal to a coke oven

Small, pourable particles of comminuted coal for coking purposes are gravity-discharged into a stream of hot gas flowing upwardly in a flight stream tube, in a direction inclined and generally opposite to the gas flow direction. Just prior to entry into the gas stream the particles are fluidized so that, on being entrained by the gas stream, they will become uniformly distributed throughout the cross-section of the same. A method and an apparatus are disclosed.

Method of, and apparatus for, charging particulate matter into a gas

A process and apparatus for the dry cooling of coke involves the provision of a vessel having therein first and second zones in full communication with each other. Hot coke from a coking operation is introduced into the first zone and is passed through the first and second zones. Raw coke oven gas from the coking operation is introduced into the first zone, thereby reducing the temperature of the coke, while cleaning the raw coke oven gas to form cleaned coke oven gas. The cleaned coke oven gas is removed from the first zone, cooled, and then directly or indirectly utilized as a heat carrier gas introduced into the second zone to therein further reduce the temperature of the coke. The thereby further cooled coke is removed from the second zone.

Process and apparatus for the dry cooling of coke

In the process of transferring coke from a coke oven chamber in a battery of coke ovens to a quenching car, the coke is quenched by a water spray from above. The resulting steam is collected in a hood located above and movable with the quenching car and is either exhausted from the hood and conveyed to a condenser or is condensed in the hood with the condensate being collected, cooled and recirculated to provide the water for the quenching and condensing sprays. The apparatus and method of this invention provides for transferring and quenching the coke without emitting harmful gases and dust to the atmosphere.

Apparatus for the transfer and quenching of coke

Superheated steam is continuously made to flow through the housing of a device which conveys coal from a bunker to the charging holes of coke ovens. While no charging takes place, the steam is vented from the housing and condensed. When charging does take place, the steam enters the coke oven with the coal, is then discharged from the coke oven, and thereupon condensed. The pressure of the steam in the housing may be greater than ambient atmospheric pressure and/or the pressure of the coking gas in the oven, to reliably prevent the entry of the air and/or the gas into the housing and thus to avoid the formation of dangerous gas mixtures therein.

Method of preventing the entry of air into the housing of a charging

A method and apparatus for the dry cooling of coke is disclosed wherein a cooling gas is routed through a coke charge by means of a distributor or manifold disposed in the bottom of a vertical cooling chamber. The gas passing upwardly through the coke charge is heated by the hot coke. A temperature sensor is provided in the discharge line for the heated gas from the coke cooling chamber, and the distribution and flow rate of the cooling gas introduced at the bottom of the chamber is controlled thereby to maintain a predetermined temperature of the discharged gas. A further embodiment includes multiple gas discharge lines located at different levels of the coke charge. Since the temperature of the gas discharged varies with the level from which the gas is withdrawn, controlled combination of the various discharge flows provides an additional means for producing and maintaining the predetermined temperature of the combined gas discharge.

Dry cooling of coke

A method and an apparatus are described for preventing the unintentional introduction of coal from a supply into a coke oven which already contains a charge of coal or coke. An obstruction sensor is lowered through a charging hole in the ceiling of the oven; if it encounters an obstruction, such as a charge of coal or coke in the oven, it triggers a signal which blocks any discharge of coal through the charging hole into the oven.

Method of, and apparatus for preventing the unintended charging of coke

Apparatus for the production of ammonia synthesis gas by the catalytic cracking of coke oven gas in the presence of water vapor and air is disclosed. The apparatus includes concentric inner and outer pipes, a first annular reaction zone between the pipes and a second reaction zone inside the inner pipe, both zones containing a catalyst. The purified coke oven gas along with air and water vapor is introduced into the interior of the outer pipe, i.e., into the first reaction zone at one end. The gas flows along the length of the pipes and then into the inner pipe, i.e., the second reaction zone, through a number of openings in the end of the inner pipe opposite the end of the outer pipe where the coke oven gas was initially introduced. The gas then flows along the length of the inner pipe to the opposite end where the cracked gas is removed.

Apparatus for the production of ammonia synthesis gas from purified coke

Flue gas discharged from a recuperator or regenerator of a coke oven battery has the steam thereof removed by means of a direct or indirect cooling and condensation operation. After the steam is removed from the flue gas it is then passed through a coke dry cooling plant in direct contact with hot coke therein to form dry cooled coke while simultaneously increasing the temperature of the flue gas. The flue gas is then passed through a coal preheating plant to directly contact and dry and preheat moist coking coal contained therein. The entire system is open, such that a given quantity of the flue gas passes only once through the system. When the temperature of the flue gas as received from a coke oven battery is extremely high, then the flue gas may be subjected to a partial cooling operation prior to the cooling and condensation operation. Further, a portion of the heat of the flue gas, after the discharge thereof from the coke dry cooling plant and prior to the introduction thereof into the coal preheating plant, may be used to generate steam and/or electricity.

Process and apparatus for drying and preheating coking coal by means of

A heat carrier gas is passed through a coke dry cooling plant in direct contact with hot coke therein to form dry cooled coke while simultaneously increasing the temperature of the heat carrier gas. The heat carrier gas is then passed through a coal preheating plant to directly contact and dry and preheat moist coking coal contained therein. The entire system is open, such that a given quantity of the heat carrier gas passes only once through the dry cooling plant and the coal drying and preheating plant. The heat carrier gas may be a flue gas which is passed directly to the coke dry cooling plant without any preliminary pretreatment, and preferably is a flue gas which is supplied directly from a regenerator or recuperator of a coke oven battery. Alternatively, the heat carrier gas may be in the form of a fuel gas which is inert with respect to the hot coke, for example a waste gas or stack gas supplied from an adjacent metallurgical installation, such as a steel mill.

Process and apparatus for utilization of the sensible heat of hot coke

An apparatus for the dry cooling of coke is disclosed including a vertical cooling chamber having an open bottom, a gas distribution manifold disposed in the bottom of the cooling chamber and a pair of discharge openings for the continuous withdrawal of the cooled coke from the bottom of the chamber. The cooling gas manifold includes upwardly sloping walls which intersect at an apex located generally centrally of the bottom of the cooling chamber. Gas discharge openings extend through these walls and are so disposed as to make cooling gas available across the entire cross-section of the cooling chamber. Individual, closed gas chambers communicate with groups of the gas discharge openings and the flow of gas to each chamber is individually regulated. Temperature sensing means is provided in the cooling chamber and the flow of cooling gas to the individual gas chambers is controlled in response to the temperatures sensed in the cooling chamber to achieve an even cooling distribution throughout the cooling chamber.

Apparatus for the dry cooling of coke

This invention is directed to a process for making coke and recovering the heat therefrom for preheating the firing gas to the coke oven. The process involves the use of the coke oven firing gas to extract the sensible heat from the hot coke from the coking oven to both preheat the firing gas for the coke oven and cool the hot coke. Significant economies are achieved in the two-fold function of coke production and heat recovery in accordance with the method disclosed.

Process for the recovery of coke oven waste heat

An arrangement for drying and preheating coking gas has a transport tube for transporting coal in a stream of a carrier gas, and a feed conduit for feeding hot gas into the transport tube. The feed conduit is movable relative to the tube so as to vary the conditions of feeding the hot gas into the transport tube. For this purpose, feed conduit may be connected with the transport tube by a ball-and-socket joint, so that it can be movable relative to the transport tube in circumferential and axial directions of the latter. The feed conduit may be composed by a plurality of conduit members located in the transport tube and one in the other, and movable relative to transport tube in the axial direction of the latter.
