A temperature regulating cover for use on an electrical energy storage cell that may produce heat at a hot spot during a short circuit condition. The cover includes a first layer of thermally conductive material that is shaped to conform to an outer surface of the electrical energy storage cell and spreads heat from the hot spot over surface area that is larger than the hot spot. The cover also includes a second layer of thermally insulating material that is shaped to conform to an outer surface of the first layer and that retards heat flow to an outer surface of the second layer.

A hand held configuration for coupling to a two wire process control loop for use in configuring and monitoring field units coupled to the two wire process control loop is provided which includes a power supply, and at least two power islands. The power islands are configured to electrically isolate electrical components in one power island from electrical components in another power island. Independent power connections are provided between each power island and the power supply.

Each physical layer includes at least one distinct lead. An intrinsically safe field maintenance tool includes terminals selectably coupleable to a process communication loop having a process industry standard communication protocol. At least one media is configured to communicate in accordance with a process industry standard communication protocol. A battery pack connector is adapted to removably couple to an intrinsically safe removable battery pack and provide power to circuitry in intrinsically safe field maintenance tool. An intrinsically safe battery pack is also provided.
