In a load limiting device (), especially for a seat belt in a vehicle, comprising a controllable braking device () which has a fluid-filled compartment () including a conduit () through which the fluid () can flow, an element to be decelerated () which is coupled to the seat belt, at least one sensor () for detecting vehicle operating data, especially an acceleration sensor, a sensor () for detecting the webbing extension, and a controller () for controlling the braking power of the braking device () as a function of the vehicle operating data measured and the webbing extension measured, the fluid () is a magnetorheological fluid and a control magnet is provided which is adapted to generate a variable magnetic field inside the conduit () and to vary the viscosity of the magnetorheological fluid inside the conduit ().

Force limiting device and method for controlling a force limiting device

An actuator, especially for a vehicle protection system, comprises at least one wire () variable in shape depending on temperature made from a shape memory alloy and an elongate pyrotechnical element () connected to the shape-variable wire () so that upon ignition of the pyrotechnical element () the wire () is heated and experiences a change of length. The vehicle protection system is, for example, an airbag system comprising an airbag and a regulating mechanism for the internal airbag pressure, wherein the wire () of the actuator () is connected to the regulating mechanism so that a change of shape of the wire () exerts a force on the regulating mechanism.

A belt retractor including a force limiter comprises a belt reel which is rotatably supported in a frame as well as a blocking unit counteracting a rotation of the belt reel and a force limiter between the belt reel and the blocking unit which permits a limited torsion of the belt reel against the blocking unit under load. The force limiter includes a damping element consisting of a cross-linked polymer which is sheared under load.

A belt retractor has a frame (), a belt spool () that is rotatably mounted in the frame (), and a force limiter () that is adapted to reach a force limiting position. A guide-in mechanism () is provided which causes the force limiter () to reach the force limiting position as a function of the length of belt webbing withdrawn.

A rotation damper, particularly for damping the rotary movement of a belt retractor shaft of a vehicle safety belt, has a housing which delimits a working space filled with a damping medium, and an element which is rotatable relative to the housing. Several pins serving as resistance elements, which extend into the working space, are provided on the element.

A device for tensioning a safety belt includes a motor and a traction transmission device having a first end and a second end. The second end of the traction transmission device is coupled to a belt buckle or an end fitting of the safety belt. The motor is constructed as a tensioner drive for an emergency tensioning. The traction transmission device is coupled to the motor such that a drive movement of the motor is converted into a longitudinal movement of the traction transmission device.

Device for tensioning a safety belt

A buckle tensioner for pre-tensioning a safety belt band comprises a traction transmission device engaging on a belt buckle, a motor and a pressure storing device which is able to be compressed by means of the motor. The traction transmission device is coupled in a force-fitting manner to the pressure storing device and the pressure storing device is arranged such that an expansion of the pressure storing device brings about a pulling away of the belt buckle for tensioning the safety belt band.

Buckle tensioner

A coupling mechanism, in particular for connecting a belt tensioner drive with a belt spool of a belt retractor for a vehicle safety belt, comprises a driving part, an intermediate part, a driven part, a form-fitting coupling and a force-fitting coupling. The form-fitting coupling and the force-fitting coupling are connected in series. The coupling mechanism has an initial state in which the form-fitting coupling is engaged and the force-fitting coupling is disengaged.

Seat belt retraction serial coupling mechanism

A belt retractor for a vehicular seat belt system comprises a belt reel taking up a seat belt, a belt tensioning mechanism capable of biasing the belt reel in a winding direction of the seat-belt, and a sensor capable of triggering the belt tensioning mechanism and provided with a safety device translatable by installation of the belt retractor in a vehicle from a secured condition in which the sensor is blocked, into a released condition in which the sensor is ready to trigger. The safety device includes a sensor blocking element which is movable between a blocking position in which the sensor is blocked, and a release position in which the sensor is ready to trigger, and includes a transport locking element and a sensing element. The sensing element senses a diameter of a coil of the seat belt on the belt reel and allows a movement of the sensor blocking element into the release position only when the diameter is below a predetermined value. The transport locking element is movable between a locked position and a release position. A spring is provided which biases the transport locking element into the release position, and a spring is provided which biases the sensor blocking element into the release position. The transport locking element comprises a retaining section which in the locked position engages an arresting section of the sensor blocking element and maintains it in the blocking position.

Belt retractor for a vehicular seat belt system

A safety belt buckle based on the well accepted pivotal latch design has simple measures for adaptation for use with a belt pretensioner. The pivotal latch (16) is secured in a fastened position by a locking plate (20). The locking plate (20) is for its part held in position by two locking balls (36), which are retained between a recess (28) in the locking plate and an arrest plate (30) adapted to shift in parallelism to the locking plate. For unfastening the buckle it is firstly necessary for such arrest plate (30) to be actuated by way of an inertial mass-compensated system. The buckle is furthermore made proof against extremely high levels of acceleration in all directions.

Buckle for safety belts

The buckle for safety belts is based on the well accepted pivotal latch design and using simple means is designed to resist the effects of a belt pretensioner. The pivotal latch is secured in a locked position by a catch plate. The catch plate is for its part held by two locking balls, held between a recess in the catch locking plate and an arresting plate extending parallel to the catch plate. For release of the buckle firstly this locking plate must be moved using a mass-balanced system.

A mechanism for the height adjustment of a safety belt deflection fitting consists of a loadbearing guide rail and an anchoring element which is vertically displaceable therein and to which the safety belt fitting is anchored. The anchoring element carries a loadbearing stop member which cooperates with spring-loaded pawl members which project into the linear movement path of said rigid stop member as long as they are not pressed by a release element into their release position. The release element comprises in addition to an actuating lug a blocking lug which in the actuated state of the release element projects into the path of the rigid stop member and consequently also cooperates with the pawl members. Unintentional skipping of the respective next lower detent position is eliminated by this construction.

Mechanism for the height adjustment of a safety belt deflection fitting

The device for vertical adjustment of a safety belt fitting consists of a load-receiving guide rail and an anchoring element which is vertically displaceable in said rail and to which the safety belt fitting is anchored. Said anchoring element carries a load-receiving stop portion which cooperates with spring-loaded pawls which project into the linear path of movement of said rigid stop portion unless they are pressed by a release element into their release position. Said release position comprises apart from an actuating extension a blocking extension which in the actuated state of the release element projects into the path of movement of the rigid stop portion and consequently also cooperates with the pawls. Unintentional skipping of the respective next lower detent position is made impossible by this construction.
